  • On a more conciliatory note before I disappear for Lent, I would absolutely support impeaching the nincompoop, with two provisos:

    1. We have to actually have a prayer of getting the votes to boot him this time, as opposed to the pathetic Resistance Theater we went through twice his last term.
    2. I'm not totally convinced that Vance would be a significant improvement. Dude wrote a book full of keen insights about the way rural people blame others for their own failures, then played to that same tendency and flogged it all the way to the White House. Not sure what he really wants but he's probably smart enough to get it and equipped with a real attention span so we might be safer with the orange manchild.

I've got to say that seeing his performance the other day, Vance seems like a horrible piece of ****. Those two are truly the dregs, how the **** did they get to where they are?

Well, the alternative was a black-Indian woman. Whose policies were bad because the price of eggs, and Gaza, or something.

Definitely not sexism or racism, I've been informed those are solved problems already in the US.

this is rich. You basically just asserted that the problems with the election of Harris were either definitely predominantly sexism or racism or definitely not sexism or racism at all. not something far from either of these interpretations.

He was being sarcastic. Given the number of misogynistic and racist Americans, and the closeness of the election, it's reasonable to say misogyny and racism probably covers the spread.

because the number of Americans voting for Harris because she was a woman (first female president) or because she was a black-indian are definitely fewer? seriously?

anecdotally my daughter and by her account all of her friends wanted Harris to win because she was a woman. I read similar sentiments quite frequently online. I do not recall a single individual opposing her election because she was a woman or because she was black-Indian. not one. Is your experience different?

<getting sick of these missed single characters. might be time for a new keyboard.>

Yeah, it was never talked about openly. But you have to look out for the dog whistles.

really? because historically dog whistles were reliable footprints for gauging actual political sentiments? How do we know this? is the assertion even falsifiable?

                  • My personal experience and the historical precedents all seem to indicate that people who act on hate filled bias tend to loudly and obnoxiously inflict that on those around them. They don't seem to be into subtle dog whistles to get their point across.

There's still a lot of misogyny. Even within the Democrat party. Until a woman actually gets elected president there's no good argument that sexism is net favorable to women. Trump, the least popular president in history, has beat 2 women, but lost to a senile old man.

Take racism out of it, and Democrats would blow the Republicans out in any case. Trump's platform is largely comprised of racism and xenophobia.

ahh. you believe that the vast majority of Trump voters are all lying about why they were willing to vote for Trump and the real reason which you have access to is that they are hoping to harm non white non male non straight non cis-gendered people? This doesn't require evidence because it's all communicated via dog whistle?

I begin to think this is going to resemble my conversations with Qanon nutjobs. I hope not.

                            Logical fallacy.

Trumps platform is not necessarily the desire of all Trump's voters. Many hold their nose and vote for him. I described his platform.

Trump ran on ending Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. It was one of his first acts as president to end DEI. He fired everyone who had anything to do with DEI. He is trying to fire everyone who fits the DEI profile. He constantly misrepresents what DEI is. He is trying to get private businesses to end their voluntary DEI programs.

Trump ran on getting back at all the other nations taking advantage of us. Mexico, Canada, China, for sending us so much stuff in return for our bits of paper. Everyone else for having VATs. He's constantly spouting xenophobic idiocy.

Trump ran on deporting 10 million illegals. Ending birthright citizenship. Ending and deporting DACA. He's constantly spouting off factually incorrect assertions about these groups. It's obvious racism and xenophobia.

                            • As for racism in general, it's still widespread. Sadly I grew up in communities where racism is still ingrained into many people. We still have people around who lived under segregation. We still have people who voted FOR segregation. We still have people around who filled in the public swimming pools with concrete instead of sharing them after desegregation.

To pretend people like this don't still exist is absurd. (If you don't have any racist relatives, lucky you.)

Nixon's southern strategy switched (White) racists from Ds to Rs. And those still alive and still racist are still there. Trump is more than happy to pander to them.

But I didn't pretend that racists and other hate-voters don't exist, did I? I observed that people who have evidence that they would vote for someone for being a woman or for being a protected class vastly outnumber those who have evidence that they would vote against someone for any of the same. This is certainly not saying that the haters don't exist. Also, I observed that since the dog whistle conjecture is non falsifiable and non-testable that it is not of much use for dealing with the lack of evidence of voters making their ballot selections based on hate rather on other non-hate related motivations.
