I've been selling all my possessions since November, I have up to day id and passport, from a year or two earlier, and my birth certificate is up to date and locked ironically by another RED State. You guys keep saying if you don't like it here, then leave, well now this ****ed up government is not only denying new passports they are seizing them. Even in the hypothetical world where I needed to change my IDs back to what they want, I can't they have legally blocked me now, and now I can't leave the country, I need to be smuggled out, or will probably be in a Work camp sooner or later, I'm not going to allow this I will take as many as these mother ****er enforcers with me as I can, if they try anything like that! I'm so sick of this, and some of you are actually happy about this kind of ****, THIS **** IS REAL you ARE ****ING SICK! History will judge you, I hope God comes down from the sky and burns the ****ing lot of you at this point!

If you don't understand, actually reading the posts would be a good first step to fix the problem. That said: Trump has issued an executive order instructing the Federal government to treat trans people as their birth gender and just generally refuse to budge an inch on anything related to trans issues. I don't know the details, but I'm told that, due to certain other contradictory rulings predating this EO, this can create a situation where trans people can't get a passport at all because reporting as either gender would violate some law.

The bit about work camps, well, I guess if you think Trump is a different person now than he was in 2020, it makes sense. Or if you've forgotten how the first Trump administration actually ran--I sometimes wish I could. Or if you believe that Trump was somehow constrained in his first term and isn't now so he can be the fascist he always wanted to be. I don't believe any are true, and at any rate if the right wing in this country really wanted to murder tons of trans people I doubt they would bother with anything like that; trans people seem to be a quite small minority and don't form an organic community like, say, Jews (with families and such), so logistically the hassle of concentration camps wouldn't make sense. You'd just see a lot of lynchings, and the federal government turning a blind eye or actively obstructing prosecution. But I don't think the EO was issued with any purges in mind; it's just the next round in our tiresome ongoing game of overton-window football. The intended message to trans people isn't "die" but "we are culturally ascendant now, so get back under your rock." Really, it's a stupid game to play, but base want red meat.

I agree that Trump just wants "we are culturally ascendant now, so get back under your rock." as much as he even cares. And probably that is true for the majority of even the MAGA Republican base, politicians and those in the administration. However, there are some, including in the administration, that want trans people to "die".

I also think there are far more damaging things to the country that Trump is doing than the anti-trains stuff.

This is where I'd like to see some numbers. How big do you reckon "some" is? Because if you're just saying that there exist people in this country who would enjoy seeing trans people die, and that many or most of those people are Republican, then yeah, that's obviously true. I don't know how significant or influential those people are. My impression--and while I'm personally an atypical libertarian, I live and travel in culturally conservative spaces, online and off--is that the driving force here is resentment at being sat on or sidelined more than anything else. Probably their primary target is anything related to trans and kids, particularly juvenile transitions, then trying to keep them out of women's spaces, followed by trifling crap like the women's sports controversies. Then just generally making trans stuff invisible and marginal to buy themselves breathing space. Don't know if you've ever checked out notthebee, but the attitude there is, "I'm getting really tired of mentally ill people lecturing me on how bigoted I am for not enabling their insanity."

Slight digression: a few elections back, Democrats brought up a figure, that something like 38 trans people had been murdered that year. Conservative blogger Rod Dreher (who's a little crazy, but not a liar) did some digging and found that 37 of the 38 were literally prostitutes. Since then I've started working in medicine, and I got to talking with one of my coworkers, a paramedic. He said it's a recurring issue that trans sex workers (or possibly just promiscuous transwomen) will sometimes take strange men to bed without telling them their status. These men often react to a surprise penis with violence, sometimes nauseatingly creative violence. Dude rode an ambulance for decades, just in this neck of FL/AL, and he kept seeing it happen. Now, that 38(?) figure was from like 2016 IIRC, but that was nationwide, in a time when trans people had fewer legal protections. I'm not sure how much appetite there really is for transpogroms.

(I don't think Trump himself cares in the slightest; he's only giving the people who voted for him what he believes they want, same as with restricting abortion--he's certainly not personally pro-life!)

Sure. I mainly contest the assertion that he's a fascist. As John Bolton, of all people, put it, "Trump isn't thoughtful enough to be a fascist." As someone who would like to see Trump more effectively opposed, I'd like it if his opposition stopped jerking off to French Resistance fantasies and confronted the problem as it actually exists.
