The states are too small to be viable. no viable state ---> no state of their own. I think they are all sick to death of the fighting but the Palestinians recognize a state defined as a "Jewish state" as "non-Islamic state" in their neighborhood. They can't deal with that. Nominally end the "zionist entity", the "jewish state" without actually changing anybody's rights and freedoms and then gradually bring the pals into the the new state as they settle down. It would probably work. The level of hate there is much higher than the very high level of hate that was in the Northern Ireland but much more modest window dressing was able to set that on the path to ebbing. Population exchanges are nasty things as well and without one in both states of a two state solution that same problems arise as in a single state solution.

There is is no easy way but it looks like 2 state solution is the least viable.

Non-specific warnings are not very useful.
“It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.”

Not much sympathy for Netanyahu on my part, warned or not I think Israel deserves a better gov, but in the end this changes nothing in regard to (so-called) Hamas fighters basically acting as if IS has become their role model, or even worse.

At least they know how to be thankful:

Hamas has thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for his statements in support of Palestine.

On October 13, Putin compared measures against the Gaza Strip to the Leningrad blockade and said that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict should be resolved through peace talks, the goal of which should be “the creation of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.” Putin also said Russia could act as a mediator in the talks.

On Telegram, Hamas wrote that it “appreciates Russian President Vladimir Putin’s stance on the ongoing Zionist aggression against [its] people and his denunciation of the siege of Gaza.” Hamas added that it welcomed Russian attempts to stop the “aggression” against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

On October 13, Russian Ambassador to the U.N. Vasily Nebenzya said that Russia is ready to mediate the conflict. He submitted a draft resolution on a ceasefire to the U.N. Security Council. The resolution does not mention Hamas.

I meant in a direct way - little participation. Almost no old timers.

Not necessarily commenting on your opinion (which was very long and I only skimmed)

In general I think two states can be viable but I don't see a path towards it. I suspect it will remain an Israeli state beside a Palestinian entity or two for a while.

Looking at the current Israeli government, I'm not always certain Israel is viable for the long term, which is a scary thought for me, as an Israeli.

did Israel and the US help create Hamas to counter the PLO and divide Palestinians?

Well, looks like the Zionist right wing has something in common with Hamas - both hate the 2 state solution. Netanyahu et al has been funding Hamas... Sound familiar? Who else funds fanatics to wage proxy wars? Thats our playbook.

I wonder whether Hamas was displeased, pleased or indifferent to the 500 civillian casualties? Israel had better be damn sure Hamas was displeased.
