Prediction Thread: When Will Russians Conquer Russia
What happens to Wagner personnel and their equipment? Do they sign contracts with Russian MOD now?
Not that I was particularly pulling for Putin, but am glad Prigozhin didn't gain power.
Will be interesting to watch what happens internally over the next few days...
I suspect most of Wagners forces will go to Belarus with him. 25 000 mercenaries can open up a credible second front. I highly doubt Pirgozhen would accept any deal that didn't involve him keeping his army.
Assuming of course that this whole thing wasn't just an elaborate piece of thestre.
Libraries are state sanctioned, so they're technically engaged in privateering. - Felch
I thought we're trying to have a serious discussion? It says serious in the thread title!- Al. B. Sure

No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.
He might still drop Prigozhin too. But giving him window treatment instead of legal punishment for treason after making a fuss about "bringing them to justice" just makes Putin more look like a Mafia guy instead of a statesman. But then it would not be a surprise either...
Patton smacked a soldier and was used as a decoy on D-Day. If Prig was in trouble wouldn't he be headed east into some gulag instead of the staging ground for a push on Kiev? Oh, and 25k Wagner will join him there... yeah, makes sense. Looks to me like the counter-counter offensive is in the works. Europeans are talking peace, Ukraine must be running out of ammo and/or bodies and Russia is gearing up to take more land.
Don't forget that living in Berzworld is a completely different place than reality
Don't forget that living in Putinworld is also shaping up to be a completely different place than reality. I think it's at least possible the entire thing was staged or at least resolved in the way it was as part of some kind of totally unhinged Putin plan.
It took nearly a year for 80k of Wagner troops to take a city about 20-25 times smaller than Kyiv. I don't think 25k of the most disgruntled of Wagner forces are about to take Kyiv.
One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

I think it far more likely that Wagner in Africa had control or ability to take control of signficant financial interests of the power base of oligarchs supporting Putin. Gold, diamonds, etc. Russia has no ability to field anyone to remove/replace them and get those income streams back. That is my guess as to what keeps Prigozhin alive.

From what I understand of the tactics Russia was using Bakhmut to lure Ukraine into battle while they built defenses along the front, thats why they didn't blow the bridges to the west. I dont know what happened with Prig but Wagner was due a break from fighting. I'm sure they will be attacking Kiev from the north soon if peace isn't made. I'll be surprised if Wall St allows the war to get that far, if Russia installs a puppet that will interfere with the west's plans to rebuild Ukraine with our taxes while fleecing Ukrainians with 'austerity' policies. One of the things I've learned about the sanctions is the average Russian is happy with one result, they've reduced the ability of oligarchs to move $ out of the country spurring domestic investment. Americans are learning what it's like to live under oligarchs.

The few times I've seen Putin speak he was the adult in the room when it comes to reality, but I haven't seen him address his lack of preparation for the initial invasion. He sent enough bodies to scare Zelensky into a peace deal but not enough if the US vetoed it. Didn't those leaked emails show the US govt has been lying about Ukraine's prospects?
