The space race was close Serb. Look how long it took for number 3 competitor in any of the individual space race contests.
Look, with all my respect for the American achievements in space flight (I really respect you for that), I wouldn't be myself, if I wont share this picture with you

            • first craft on mars? which one was that?

first moon landing - if you want to call it that, which i do not. the Soviet Union performed the first hard Moon landing – "hard" meaning the spacecraft intentionally crashes into the Moon. As they had no idea how to really land.

Venus - those were cool. not an easy place to visit. still...

but really now... the US (as always) rules in space. but nice pic serb.

                • a series of rushed failed attempts. sounds like current invasion we are seeing today. Viking 1, USA. Mars 3 ... Contact lost 20 seconds after transmission started, 110 seconds after landing. i bet it took 110 seconds to figure out it crashed. but nice try.

                  • Wanna compare death ratio between American astranauts and Soviet/Russian cosmonauts to find out whose spaceships are more reliable and more safe?

So? Compare deaths per man/hour in space or deaths per person launched to space. Russia had a better safety record thanks largely to the 2 shuttle disasters and to a decent manned launch vehicle in soyuz.

                            • For your information, Neil Armstrong and and Buzz Aldrin had left a memo tablet on the Moon with names of all HUMAN space farers (both American and Soviet), who had died to the moment of their landing. The first name in the list was Yuri Gagarin (who had died in an air crush one year before their landing on the Moon). That was a sign of respect, which still causes nothing, but respect!
Unlike us (idiots) now, those people really respected each other, despite being competitors.
