And just to remind you in a what kind of World we were living just not so long ago, when the space exploration have started, I should quote an angry latter of one American lady, outraged by the fact that Soviets have launched Laika (the first dog in space) to the Earth orbit with a one way ticket:
"Why did you kill such a nice dog? You could have launched a little nigg er baby instead!"

Russia has produced some of the best mathematicians and rocket scientist the world has ever known. Germany is not to shabby in that department historically either. The U.S. is such an interesting place though. It gets much of its genius by choice as people want to be here as opposed to anywhere else. That "melting pot" effect is, imho, one of the greatest strengths of the U.S. Hard to argue with the historical intellectual achievements of Russians though. They do produce some brilliant people.
