In the end it's demographic collapse is what will do it in. That makes Russia different from a country like communist China, who's dictator for life wants to pretend to be a big swimming dick, but whose country is a net importer of both food and energy (not to mention completely dependent upon the export trade)
So Russia likely can shamble on in a zombie state for a few decades but if Communist China took part in a war of aggression/conquest it would collapse in less than two years because it not only can't feed itself,not can't keep the lights on, and it's entire economy would collapse under sanctions like Russia is now under.
