Prediction Thread: When Will Ukraine Conquer Russia
Since we slurp a half million tons of diesel per day, I'm not certain how much this would impact prices, even if Russia manages to make that number.
Prices are set globally. So i would estimate diddly squat except maybe in logistics costs (if shipping to the US is cheaper than wherever it was going to go otherwise). And this assumes the diesel actually goes to the US and doesn't get openly traded.
Whoever was going to get that diesel (on paper or physical delivery) will have to look elsewhere, raising the global price ever so slightly, which in turn raises the prices in the US just enough on the rest of its supply sources to offset any lowering of prices resulting from the supply coming from Russia.
If you want prices to move, you have to increase global supply (or put in controls to distort the market), not just move the deck chairs around in the free market.
One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.
Only real winner is Russia, as they can sell it on the open market using the US financial system (i.e. USD) without their funds getting frozen or having to use shadow tactics to avoid detection.

Actually, sucks to own anything other than an EV right about now... 😇
I dunno, I own a bicycle and don't think it sucks. It even keeps me fit, using it to go to places. I think it's pretty neat. I considered an E-Bike, but decided against, since I don't have to travel that far and the terrain is pretty flat here.
But it just so happens the vast majority of my day to day travel is walking or cycling, as I live a 10 minute walk from the city centre, a 10 minute cycle ride from work. 🙂
That said, I often prefer taking the train on longer distances, as it's just... nicer...
BUT, when I do need to use my car, it's an EV 😇
If you can afford an EV these days, driving anything else has been dumb for a few years already...
