You obviously miss the critical point - it doesn't matter if it's ballistic or driven by a power source - when the surface is damaged both go to hell. Heck, if it has a power source, it even go down faster.

Edit: if the power source get damaged, it will be way faster.

When a non-hypersonic missile strikes a hypersonic one, its kinetic energy doesn't dissapear to anywhere!
