  • FWIW I didn't have to heat since early January. Years ago the house I'm living in underwent a major reconstruction effort including improved insulation of the walls and much better windows. As an result it does not cool down easily, I only really need to turn on the heat when temps go below 0C for a longer period of time. And if needed, I'd certainly survive without that.

February has been rather mild overall, and now it's even warmer.

I realise others may not be so lucky, but as far as I'm concerned an embargo or at least a serious reduction of gas use is fine for the next winter, though best would be of course if things are resolved by then...

    • I'm in a similar spot. I purposefully searched for places with very high thermal insulation ratings when looking for a place to live. Unfortunately it's a top floor of a reconstructed house, and it has a gas heater (I would have preferred a heat pump, but there were no places like that in the month we were looking).

I also left for 5 weeks in Dec/Jan to Argentina, so no energy use during that period.

      • Some of you might want to look into a pellet stove. It would probably provide the cheapest heating option.

        • My landlord will not do anything

First thing I'll do when I get permanent residency papers is buying a place of my own.

I will also investigate on the feasibility of solar hot water, in Argentina it's very good (unless you're on subsidized nat gas), but here I'm having my doubts, especially since it would need to be frost proof, and this more expensive.

As far as I know solar water boiler panels work on glycol. So frost proof should not be a thing?

That depot was designed to withstand a nuclear strike, silly!

Don't you really find any similarities between Jews in Nazi Germany in 20'th century and Russians in 21'st century, you - brainwashed idiot?!

Russians, who control the largest state on Earth and possess nuclear weapons, are just like Jews in Nazi Germany. LOL

                • The big problem is going to be after Mariupol finally gets over run like the Alamo (probably in a week or less) that is going to free up a lot of units to push north. Hopefully, Ukraine can mobilize, train, and deploy enough forces in time to block that.

The frost is from ambient air on exterior surfaces and it reflects a substantial portion of the sunlight.

Serb how many casualties do you think Ukrainians and Russians have had in the special military operation?

That would include armed Ukrainian civilians KIA, correct?

So while Russians are carefully avoiding unarmed civilian casualties and collateral damage, they are killing 10 armed Ukrainians for every loss they take? How do you envision most of these Ukrainian casualties being inflicted? Artillery? Airstrikes? Ground forces?

For the record, I think the ratio may be 10 to 1, but in that case I think the overwhelming majority of Ukrainian casualties consist of armed civilians.

                          Incorrect.
We are no where near as Americans in Iraq or Afghanistan.

They've gave assault rifles to everyone for free, released and armed convicts from prisons and mobilized everyone from 18 to 60. And we were outnumbered 250:350 from the beginning.
If you are armed, you are not a civilian, simple as that!

We have destroyed their air defense within a two days.

So, yes, it' all of the above. We own the skies, the rest are consequences.
