        Probably TLDR for some

They still have jobs, and they're still collecting pay checks. They just won't be a part of the special unit.

Buffalo still has (at least) 57 officers who approve of violent felonies.

I am beginning to think that you do not support Donald Trump

          • After all this silliness... I checked on what George Floyd was being arrested for... I haven't seen it posted in this thread and honestly don't remember it appearing in any news story I watched or read.

So, what do you think? Was he a child rapist? Was he a cannibal? Did he rape an unconscious cheerleader? Maybe armed robbery, or home invasion?

            Spoiler:
He allegedly tried to pass off a counterfeit $20 bill. He wasn't being arrested for printing counterfeit money, only trying to spend a $20 bill. I use cash all the time, and I don't recall the last time I looked at a $20 bill and though, 'Is this real? Should I have a bank confirm it's authentic before I try spending it?'. He was arrested because he had a fake $20 bill. He may not have even known it was fake.

And the cop felt it necessary to pin him with a knee to the neck. I sincerely hope his murderer rots in jail.

And police officers are poorly trained, have guns and have few answers other than the obvious.

Defunding the police (not entirely, but cutting back what we expect them to do by a lot) would improve the lives of the remaining police as well as how well society functions.

              Agree with Jon Miller.

Policing is an obvious component of public safety, but just one component of a comprehensive solution

Obvious problems as stated of ending the war on drugs and reducing homelessness, drug addiction, and employment would go a long way.

We can't just have cops protecting rich white ladies while feeding the military industrial complex surplus sale when they are out of wars to sell to

In some cities, police budgets make up 1/3 of the budget!

New York City has a $6 billion budget!

Obviously departments violating Constitutional rights unprovoked need to have a closer look at how they are spending money.

I think a new police oversight Federal department needs created, and grades cops. Those misbehaving and attacking civilians need their budgets scrutinized. Those that have good community relations, the Feds can take a laissez-faire approach with.

The other part though should be, roll back Trump's tax cuts for the rich to create the Federal oversight department.

The obvious question is why police budgets and community programs are being discussed in your typical American, binary, black/white, mutually exclusive decision making process. Should be room for both, but misbehaving cops do need to be penalized. Good cops rewarded.

Exactly. Cops shouldn't be cowards and ignore it when there partners/colleagues are violent racist pieces of sh!t. They should call out the bad cops, and if the bad cops won't go in peace, fire them.

              • May I point out that policemen do not cause crime. We have policemen because we have criminals.

                  • The state of policing is a symptom of the underlying problem. Setting aside some skew factors on good vs bad cops (criminal infiltration, corruption) the issue of racism will probably in some part come from the experience cops have with the various communitIes they serve. If you are good fair cop, and you are dealing with a group of people who are neutral/generally trust you, and a group who fear and distrust you for long entrenched reasons, whose behaviour will seem more suspicious to you? If you live that experience on a regular basis, you’ll probably treat the two groups differently, even if you don’t realise it.

For my part in financial crime investigations, I have biases from my experiences that I have to consciously override. Some would refuse to co operate, others would lie through their teeth about everything, some would be very friendly and appear cooperative but actually be obfuscating. None of these was a good indicator of innocence or guilt, but it does try to invade your thinking.

Then you wonder why you make racist states

This coupled with the fact that usa is the most capitalist neoliberal state ever to apear baring some latin american juntas, and you get this explosive mix.
