Katz is the classic place while Carnegie Deli is the classic competitor. I haven’t been to NYC in a good eight years so I don’t know about the numerous newer places which have popped up.
Also I hope upper Manhattan is a good neighborhood and not a ghetto : pray :
It is nice but you will be way up town from most of the tourist stuff. Jersey City is pretty ghetto but if you stay near the river the hotel district is nice and you can just take the PATH Train into Manhattan. The hotel fees are much cheaper in Jersey City too.
On the downside... You are in New Jersey and the place closes up by 9pm.
This is almost as tragic as non alcoholic drinks after 8 hour at night in Barcelona except in bars.
What happened to the city that never sleeps?
I will check it out but I think I'll leave new jersey to new jersey
If you go across the river to NYC it really does never sleep. What I was suggesting is you get a half priced hotel in Jersey City (in New Jersey) then just take the PATH train into NYC (it goes in a tunnel under the Hudson River and you can get off right at the World Trade Center one stop later in Manhattan). Jersey City itself is dirty and ghetto but you can stay in the hotel area near the Hudson River with great views of Manhattan while spending half as much on the hotel.
You can get around from upper Manhattan but it will cost more and take longer. It comes down to what you want to spend and the amount of time you want to spend.
I am a cheap ****er so I want to spend the least and spend the least amount of time.
PATH is not 24hours though, I wouldn't want to swim across the hudson (Actually I'd have no problem but apparently it can get pretty cold in NEW YORK in winter )
But I did check to stay further down in manhattan not so north.
The thing with this city is that there are tons of things to do.
I'm listening to jazz and drinking whiskey to prepare with a huge cryogenic cast on my broken ankle.
When it heals up, NYC here I come
I've alreay fallen in love and haven't even visited
