  • You can shoot, stab, and beat other PCs but calling them mean names is too far?

I haven't played this game as I find first person shooters to be lame but this seems a bit too far to me. In a video game about a post nuclear war wasteland where players can kill other players in a wide variety of ways you can now get banned if you called other players mean names. Don't get me wrong, those guys sound like dicks, but it just defies belief that is ok to shoot, stab, beat with baseball bats or otherwise murder fellow PCs but calling them queers is some how a bannable offense. I mean wtf?

No problem here. The violence is fake, opt in, targetted at the PC, and part of the game. The bigotry is real, not opt in, targeted at the person behind the PC, and not part of the game (in fact against the rules).

I am not delusional! Now if you'll excuse me, i'm gonna go dance with the purple wombat who's playing show-tunes in my coffee cup!
Rules are like Egg's. They're fun when thrown out the window!
Difference is irrelevant when dosage is higher than recommended!

If you watch the video it is just childish kid name calling stuff. This is a really retarded move.

This is how you end up with whiny losers who are "traumatized" whenever they hear something they dislike. What ever happened to just putting people you dislike on mute? Or is that too much common sense? I guess expecting people to do a tiny bit themselves is just too much to ask these days.

Yes, you can get banned from using an online service if you are rude to other customers, how is this surprising?

You’re so right! A FPS game should totally be about who can mute the other player fastest! The more offensive you are the more advantage you should have. While some kid fumbles around with the UI to block your slurs, you get a headshot! So much winning!

Now we just have to wait for market forces will destroy Bethesda for their actions and we can all start calling each other homos in games again.

Also, pro sports should really go back to allowing fans, broadcasters, coaches, and players to use racial slurs ... it’s the only way we can avoid being a bunch of pussies.

You honestly see no position between what you posted and banning people? There are presumably tens of thousands of players and probably more on tons of different servers. How about having different rules on different servers and letting everyone pick which ever server they want?

                    That shouldn't be to difficult.

Oerdin, if the precious #MeToo movement has taught us anything, is that all forms of meanness needs to be removed from all human beings. Especially hate-speech that could potentially traumatize an innocent kid that accidentally chose the wrong server. Now he is scarred for life.

What shouldn’t be difficult is understanding Bethesda has a right to determine what is acceptable behavior on their servers.

No one is arguing that. What I have brought up is the inherent hypocrisy and double standards. That you have worked so hard to avoid that point tells me you know it smells bad too.

Given that intimidation based on protected statuses like gender and ethnicity are covered by federal and state civil rights laws, the company probably thinks they don’t want to be sued for facilitation. Even if someone signs an unenforceable waiver to be on a server designated for racist, homophobic misogynistic *******s.
