It’s possible for patriotism and nationalism to refer to the same thing, as well as different things. In the US they tend to be used interchangeably. This can of course lead to problems, and Trump serms intent on taking the priblematic path. Promoting a hatred of foreigners rather than simply a love of country.

In any case, both are flawed. Neither achieves anything useful that can’t be achieved better in other ways, and both can and often have lead to horrendous conclusions. We would all be vastly better off if people identified as human rather than nationality or whatever other exclusive grouping, and had loyalty to principles rather than to a flag or silly lines on a map.

Hating foreigners isn't a thing. It's a CNN fake news story.

Nationalism was a positive force when it was directed inwards, to overcome Monarchic rule in the 18-19th century. However, what completely overhshadowed this is the impact of aggressive nationlism in various forms since the late 19th/early 20th century that was directed outwards against other countries/ppl.

It's no surprise that the assassination triggering events leading to WWI was done by pan-serbist forces (where nationalism is a key element), and nationalism provided the primary ideologic justification on all sides of the war, albeit to different extent.

When you accuse people of being unpatriotic and not having Western values I don't think you know the difference between a Nazi and a Nationalist. Your president is a twit.

I'm talking about Macron's insulting speech. That's news here. Did you hear about that?

I know you were talking about WWI, but these days people don't make proper distintion.

Trump is a thief, a racist, a rapist, and a boor and shouldn't be believed by anyone. Kidiot has drunk the Kool-Aid, and so have many other very stupid, cowardly Americans.
There's nothing wrong with the dream, my friend, the problem lies with the dreamer.

A guy calling Trump a rapist accuses me of drinking Kool-aid. I better rethink my life.

Thanks for sharing. Not that it is relevant for me though.
It is obviously very relevant to you as you are the one repeating the lies and nonsense. Like the weak little German you are you have been trained to hate yourself, your nation, and trained to never be patriotic. It is pathetic and you should stop doing it.
