It’s possible for patriotism and nationalism to refer to the same thing, as well as different things. In the US they tend to be used interchangeably. This can of course lead to problems, and Trump serms intent on taking the priblematic path. Promoting a hatred of foreigners rather than simply a love of country.
In any case, both are flawed. Neither achieves anything useful that can’t be achieved better in other ways, and both can and often have lead to horrendous conclusions. We would all be vastly better off if people identified as human rather than nationality or whatever other exclusive grouping, and had loyalty to principles rather than to a flag or silly lines on a map.
