I wonder about this as well.
Exclusive homeschooling (as in not attending any school) has never been allowed unless under special circumstances (as I said, for example health reasons that prevent school attendance)
and I also cannot see any hints in Dinners link that it now is allowed

What is illegal is, to keep your kids from visiting the compulsory public (or private school)

You can teach your kids everything you like at home ... in addition to the things your kid learns in public/private school.
You are not allowed, however, to prevent the visit of your kid at a public/private school ... visiting public/private schools is mandatory.

      To sum it up:
Homeschooling your kids in whatever task you like != illegal
Not taking care that your kid attends to a public/private school = illegal

Here is an article that explains it in more detail:

(and also details why mandatory attendance to school is in your kids and societry best interest)
We need a fantasy rep. I just posted a BBC article from 2013 which said it was illegal in Germany. I just posted a second article which said it was made legal in Feb 2016.

Where on that website does it state that homeschooling (as in, exclusively educating your child at home and not sending them to any school, as is the commonly understood meaning of the term in English) was ever legalized in Germany?
Hmm, wiki says homeschooling is still illegal in Germany, I found an article which says it was illegal but is now legalized, while our kraut poster claims it was never illegal. I, personally, trust the BBC which said it was illegal in 2013.

        Very confusing.

And I linked an article (from a german) that says how it actually is and the justifications why ... obviously you didn't care to read this.
Also, as spambot and myself already wrote ... the link you posted (in order to say that exclusive homeschooling (in actually keeping your kid out of school) is now allowed in germany) doesn't actually contain anything that supports this claim

Read the article I already linked before:
            https://medium.com/@FreisinnigeZtg/h...y-40b96f82d51e

And regarding the illegal thing Uwe and Hannelore Romeike did:
They kept their kid out of the public school system

            This is the illegal thing
Not teaching your kids anything you like at home (during the off school hours) (which not only is allowed but also can contribute to your kid becoming a well-rounded personality)
