Nationalism, meaning patriotism, gets a bad rap. In Europe the lying **** stains in the anti-Democratic and authoritarian EU have long slandered and maligned the nation state for an obvious self interest reason. Also one of the things that makes it more likely that Bolsonaro can turn Brazil into a dictatorship is because its civil institutions were weak at the best of time yet both the left and the center have been so widely discredited recently by running such massive, and I do mean truly massive, public corruption schemes. People turned to the far right because both the far left and the center proved themselves to be thieves.

Will Bolsonaro be any different? I doubt it as he is still Brazilian and Latin American and corruption isn't just part of their political culture. It is their political culture. The apple will not fall far from the tree.

That is one of the reasons Brazil is the country of the future... And always will be. In Latin America the only consistently well governed countries are Chile and Costa Rica and that only goes back to the 1970's. Arguably you might be able to put Uruguay on that list but not being terrible does not "well governed" make.
