No. It's a historical fact that the number of single mothers increased greatly right after women started getting welfare checks. Some smart people saw this and brought it to Johnson's attention. To his credit, Johnson did what he could to make this an issue, but the establishment fought back, calling it racist to blame black women.

I understand that, what I said is the GOP insisted welfare could not go to married couples because they didn't want able-bodied men sitting around on welfare. The result was fathers who couldn't legally live with their families followed by a drug war that jailed many fathers.

I know that sucks. I was a single man on welfare for a few years. I was discriminated against, and my child suffered. They still have that attitude that men should never need welfare, but women should.
