Yeah, Bush said that we aren't at war with Islam then he invaded a Muslim country. They said that it was to bring democracy to the ME. Totally crazy, right?

I rather remember a lot of lies regarding supposedly present chemical and biological wespons in Iraq, which were used as casus belli (and in the attempt at assembling a coaliton of the gullible)
Poor Colin Powell totally ruined his reputation, when he had to present all these aerial photographs to the UN and give the assembled world leaders the fake descriptions for them (like, the structures being cemical weapon tanks, vehicles being mobile Bioweapon labs and so on)

The lie about the whole war just having been about bringing democracy to the Iraq IIRC only was invented after the war, when the US forces failed to discover the huge bio/chemical weapon stockpiles (and production capabilities) Iraq was supposed to have (according to the USAs words)

Not a lie at all. It's what the neocons believed, and whatever actual neocons that are left still believe that even though Iraqis don't care to have anything to do with any secularization, as they see it as a western plot. And that is one thing they are right about. It was a western plot against Islam.

Iraq was a secular nation when Saddam was at power.
Saddam himself took care that thre no religious groups go too mighty (out of fears for his own power).
Actually Iraq got less secular after Saddam (and his sons) were removed from office, as afterwards all those religious groups (who were previously oppressed) could now start their own guerilla war against the "weestern opppressors" (or other religious affiliations/sects) (and even got help by former members of Saddams regime/millitary, who acted acccording to the principle "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" (a principle which the USA also have used in the pst (and still use)

So if any Neocons believe/d that the war was about secularization of Iraq (or helped the secularization in any way) they are quit foolish, because the contrary was the case

Maybe "secularation" is not the right word because neocons are very anti-communist. Saddam was a kind of Muslim communist.

                          • Saddam modeled himself after Josef Stalin. He wasn't a Communist, he was a "Saddam Hussein-ist" (basically one step away from declaring himself the God-Emperor of Iraq)
