The CBO estimates that the number of uninsured will increase primarily because the penalty (TAX) for not having insurance will be eliminated. Sounds pretty cruel to me.

Also it will reduce the deficit and lower premiums.

That's just a talking point. The bill would eliminate the employer mandate as well as the individual mandate as already mentioned. It would also give tax credits to the high risk and needy. And it would reduce some regulation and finance some state innovation.

1) I don't judge countries by the large size and power of their governments. In fact, it would be closer to the truth that I judge countries by how small and weak their governments are. Where you have weaker governments you will have stronger more independent individuals. This is why both men and women of previous generations were much MUCH stronger than men and women today. In fact, individual weakness and dependency is a serious problem.

3) I believe in the free market. If those who believe that the govt should subsidize healthcare put forth a real plan to protect markets I would be much more open.

4) Imo those who think that it's the govt job to provide health care aren't cost conscious. The system in the UK is an exception, but I don't think that can or should be duplicated here.

Tax credits seem to be more useful for midddle to high earners (who pay more taxes) than for people of the lower income classes.
So, actually it seems to subsidize people who may have less problems to afford healthcare without state help, while eaving those who may need help (in order to afford a health insurance) out in the rain

Funny how many of the states with universal healthcare are located ower on the fragility index (= more stable) than the USA
(also funny how the years of Obama saw a steady decrease in US fragility score .. whereas one half year of Trump already resulted in an increase of the US fragility score, that undid the decreases of more than one year Obama)
