I don't really play games anymore. The last game I really played seriously was Age of Empires 2. I come from a time when you played MP to win and crushing people was fun and what people strived for. Competition in MP was a given, and you played to be number 1. Civilization 4 was a joke to me, a game made for kids and geared towards the lowest common denominator. The fact that it had mechanisms to prevent you from getting ahead, and actively assisted those behind, told me everything I needed to know. I felt like my IQ decreased every time I played it in MP.
I recently saw Civ6 was going to be coming out soon, and on a whim I bought the whole Civ5 game for 12$ on a steam sale. I decided to go on twitch to watch one of the Civ5 streams and began asking questions in the chat about the game.
I'm beginning to think that maybe "streamlining" (code for dumbing down) games was necessary given the current generation of limp wristed effeminate males who appear to be majoring in women's studies and are now taking their safe spaces to the internet and games. I assume Civ6 will have full blown Communism in effect and anyone found to be attempting to win in a multiplayer game will be properly reeducated. Given how cartoony the new Civ6 looks, and the types of people who appear to be attracted to this game these days, I think I'll just not waste my time and do something more productive. Apparently I have grown old and no longer understand the point of games.

- Apparently Civ5 took the "catch up" mechanisms a step further and even allows you to vote to make someone's techs more expensive.
- Disagreeing with the new generation of gamers automatically makes you a troll. What's worse is that they won't even argue with you; they'll just act offended that you said something outlandish, call you a troll, and leave it at that.
- You apparently don't play games to win anymore, and I clearly "did not understand the point of civ5". Also, apparently it's boring if you can't catch up because if you're behind you'll lose and that's just no fun.
- People should apparently not be allowed to create leads because "that's no fun."
