Do you doubt you're decision to abandone your religion? Why did you exchange beliefs that you doubt with new beliefs that you also doubt?Originally posted by loinburger View PostI used to be Catholic, now I'm not. The evidence dictates that you do not like to have your beliefs questioned. The reasonable conclusion is that you not only don't doubt your beliefs, but you also doubt them.Originally posted by loinburger View PostI'm done, the agnostics can have their thread backI drank beer. My take on it is that agnosticism (as it pertains to religion / religious belief) is orthogonal to (a)theism, where agnosticism is the belief that God's existence hasn't been (dis)proven (the weak version) or that God's existence cannot be (dis)proven (the strong version). Most atheists will happily admit that they can't prove a negative, and so they're agnostic atheists; many theists will happily admit that they don't have proof that God exists (they have faith, but not proof), and so they're agnostic theists. The atheists and theists who do think that the have proof of God's (non)existence tend to be very unpleasant people.<p style="font-size:1024px">HTML is disabled in signatures

Ah another word, conjecture. Literally everyone uses conjecture. I'm fact part of the scientific method is using conjecture. The only people who don't use conjecture are those who don't have the mental capacity and agnostics. Agnostics only refuse to use conjecture regarding the question of the existence of God though. That's my point. So again, if not being able to prove something is a reason not to believe then why do you only apply that to the issue of the existence of God.Originally posted by ricketyclik View PostOh well, you could always google it yourself. Agnosticism is simply recognising when evidence is lacking for any particular viewpoint, and that the viewpoints are therefore conjecture.
Your argument is invalid until you address this instead of just calling people like me ignorant without any reasonable argument to support that assertion.

Oh I use conjecture all the time wrt God. My take on it is that human beings experience something that points towards a higher power when in highly emotional/far from equilibrium biochemical states, perceive it rightly or wrongly as evidence, and then look for an explanation for those experiences. Or they're just **** scared of dying.
Then someone who knows this about people steps in and says "What you're experiencing is God. Here's a big storybook about him. It's all true, and if you're true to yourself you'll follow me and give me some of your money". That person may even demand the other give their life in a war to "defend the honour of God" or some such, when of course what they're really after is the other sovereignty's resources.
But I know these are just opinions. I don't insist that they're true, or that anyone else adhere to them.

To get a bit closer to my own take, I think there is a God. I think that God is the force of life and love, and that we all form a part of it, in turn, and that when we die we return to the oneness of universality.
But that's just my opinion, and I know it is at best not totally accurate and and worst complete bunkum.
