Speculating on someones death can backfire.
As a lawyer had to find out who speculated on the death of the woman (Jeanne Calment) who would become the oldest woman in france till her death.
When she was 90, she sold her appartment to said lawyer (who was 47 then), under the condition that she would be allowed to live in it till the end of her life.
Bad investment for the lawyer ... when said lawyer died from cancer, 30 years later (i.e. aged 77), Jeanne still was alive.
She would live for another 2 years till she, too, died, having outlived all of her children.

    • Now it's being reported that Hefner has died...age 88.

            • RIP Greg Lake, who fronted for both Emerson Lake & Palmer and a co-founder of King Crimson, dead at 69. Cancer.

I saw him perform with EL&P in college, around 1972. He had a beautiful voice, and was a big part of my prog-rock years.
I guess the appropriate video to post has to be "Epitaph."

                          • Joseph Mascolo, who played the iconic Stefano DiMera on DAYS on and off since 1982, passed away on December 8 after battling Alzheimer’s disease for many years. “It is with great sorrow that we share the news the news of the passing of our dear friend and beloved member of the Days of our Lives family, Joseph Mascolo,” said Executive Producer Ken Corday in a statement. “The smile on Joe’s face is something we’d all come to find comfort in, and he will be sorely missed. His larger than life presence, kind heart, and unwavering positivity has impacted us all for decades, and will live on in the memories of his many fans. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time.” Mascolo hailed from West Hartford, CT and was originally on a path to become a classical musician. When a drama professor heard his voice and suggested he give theater a try, Mascolo found his calling. In addition to numerous stage productions, the actor made his feature film debut in Diary of a Mad Housewife, followed by roles in Sharky’s Machine and Heat with Burt Reynolds. But it was his appearance in the TV miniseries THE GANGSTER CHRONICLES that caught the attention of then-DAYS Head Writer Pat Falken-Smith, who created the role of Stefano for him. After years of portraying Phoenix in Salem, Mascolo left the soap in 2001. B&B’s Executive Producer/Head Writer Bradley Bell came calling, and Mascolo joined the CBS soap as Massimo Marone, who was revealed to be Ridge’s bio dad. After five years, Mascolo left B&B and returned to DAYS in 2006, where he has played Stefano ever since. Mascolo is survived by his wife, Patricia Schultz-Mascolo, his son Peter, his step-daughter Laura, and his sister, Marie and her husband Ronald LaVoie. He also had five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one niece, one nephew, 3 great nieces, one great nephew and one great-great niece. In a statement, Schultz-Mascolo said, “Joseph was a big ’ol bear with a puppy dog heart. I’m so blessed to have had these many years with him. I will miss him every day.”

                            • E R Braithwaite

E.R. Braithwaite, the author who wrote the autobiographical novel "To Sir, With Love," drawing on his experiences as a teacher in London's East End during the 1950s, died Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, according to multiple news sources. He was 104.

The author's companion, Ginette Ast, told The Associated Press that Braithwaite died at a medical center in Rockville, Maryland, following a brief illness.

The 1959 book was adapted later for the big screen; the 1967 James Clavell film starred Sidney Poitier, and the Scottish singer Lulu played a part in the film and sang its theme song, which became a No. 1 hit for her that same year.

Edward Ricardo Braithwaite was born June 27, 1912, in Georgetown, British Guyana. He was educated at Queen's College in Guyana and later the City College of New York. In 1949, he attended the University of Cambridge, receiving a bachelor's degree and a doctorate in physics.

After a stint in the Royal Air Force, he tried in vain to find work related to his educational field, so he took a teaching job at a rough-and-tumble secondary school in London's East End. "To Sir, With Love" drew on his experiences there.

In the novel and movie, the students, ill-mannered and ill-equipped to learn, at first frustrate their teacher, Ricky Braithwaite. After taking a new tack in teaching, however, he manages to win them over.

The author, whose works often touched on the topics of racism experienced by an educated black man, also wrote "Paid Servant" (1962), "A Kind of Homecoming" (1962), and "Choice of Straws" (1965).

Braithwaite later became a college educator and a diplomat. He was the permanent representative to the United Nations for Guyana as well as Guyana's ambassador to Venezuela.
