Σύμφωνα με τα αποτελέσματα των γενικών εκλογών της 20ης Δεκεμβρίου, το Λαϊκό Κόμμα (PP) του Μαριάνο Ραχόι φτάνει τις 123 έδρες με 28,72% (χάνοντας 63 έδρες). Δεύτερο είναι το Σοσιαλιστικό Κόμμα του Πέδρο Σάντσεθ με 90 έδρες και 22,01% (χάνοντας 20 έδρες). Τρίτο είναι το Podemos του Πάμπλο Ιγκλέσιας με 69 έδρες και 20,66% και τέταρτο το κεντρώο Ciudadanos με μόλις 40 έδρες και 13,93% -τη σύνθεση του Κοινοβουλίου συμπληρώνουν άλλες 28 έδρες που μοιράοζονται σε έξι μικρότερα κόμματα, τα περισσότερα «τοπικού χαρακτήρα». Στη Γερουσία, την απόλυτη πλειοψηφία έχει το PP, όμως αυτό δεν βοηθά τα πράγματα.

Rajoy lost 63 seats. socialists lost 20 seats.
Podemos gained 69 seats.
