Yeah, it was a bit of hand-waving but it keeps Oscar Isaac in the films, so whatever.

As for Rey, she's obviously Palpatine's daughter. Eventually someone's has to tell her why he ain't coming back for her.

      Disney will be happy
SW VII claimed many records for its opening weekend in USA+Canada, with 238 Mio $ in sales ... and world wide it got just barely beaten by Jurassic world (517 vs. 524 Mio $)

That'd be an unexpected plot twist.

Anakin was conceived by the will of the Force. Maybe Rey has no parents at all.

I'm still trying to figure out why the Resistance would so easily trust a First Order storm trooper claiming he was defecting. His initial meeting w/ Po was barely believable, but I could stretch my disbelief to buy it since Po was desperate. But you'd think in the back of his mind he'd be smart enough to go, "Hmm, maybe this is a ruse to get me to lead them directly to the droid." That the First Order would be willing to sacrifice their own to allow him to escape, were that the case, is without question: that's what Empire did in ANH.

However, Leia trusting him immediately? That's just dumb. Nobody bothered to interrogate him to see if his story held up. Still, if he just ended up being another boot on the ground, that wouldn't be so bad. Buuuut he becomes the lynch pin of their plan! He says offhandedly that he knows how to deactivate the shield. None of these Resistance leaders even bothers to ask him how (until Han does so obliquely by asking what his job was). You'd think his being so vital to their mission succeeding would have sparked at least someone to go, "Uhhhh, just *why* are we trusting this former storm trooper?" At the very least, have him detail exactly what needs to be done to shut down the shield to Han so in case he gets killed in the infiltration attempt, the plan can still proceed...

And just why was a Storm Trooper who worked sanitation on the highly-critical attack on Jakku with what we can presume is their most elite unit under the direct command of Captain Phasma?

Speaking of Phasma, I have a hard time believing, given her ostensible loyalty to the First Order, that she'd so easily acquiesce to lowering the planet's shields. The troopers had all supposedly been brainwashed since birth to put loyalty to the FO above all else. And does the manner in which Han and Finn dispose of her strike anyone else as rather... evil? Han takes particular relish in specifying they should dump her in a garbage chute with a trash compactor. So even assuming that they are forced to kill her to keep their mission from being compromised, gleefully subjecting her to what they would know is a slow, crushing death in a compactor is pretty unheroic.

I'm also baffled as to how the Force sensing works. So Kylo Ren can sense when Han is on the same planet with him, even half a world away, but he can't tell when he practically walks right by Han, in the same room?

                  AND ANOTHER THING...

Does anyone else think that "Snoke" is about the silliest name ever for sinister dark lord? I mean, "Count Dooku" was also pretty giggle-inducing, but who thought up the name "Snoke" and thought, "Oh, yeah, that sounds totally menacing!"

So we have all these dark lord with names like Vader, Sidious, Tyranus, Exar Kun, Treya, Revan... and now Snoke.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first half of the movie but was disappointed by the second half.

I was really hoping that since ANH was all The Dam Busters in Space that they'd update it for the next generation by doing something like The Bridges at Toko-Ri in Space. But alas. It would have been so much better that way. They could even have Han Solo come out of retirement to be Harry Brubaker if he needs to sacrifice himself.

The superweapon thing should have been left out. I thought that they had blown up Coruscant, which had a much bigger impact on me than Han's death, but then it turns out that it was actually some random-ass place we'd never heard of before and will never hear about again.

The attack on the uberdeathstar was lame. The resistance outpost place where Luke's lightsaber was kept should have been the scene of the final battle. In general they should have not tried to just copy the plot thread of A New Hope. After about an hour of that it stopped being nostalgic and started being annoying.

I did appreciate that right away it was clear they threw out a lot of the mistakes of the prequels. For instance, they show us the heroes and the villains and the macguffin in the first 15 minutes. The protagonists don't seem invincible and the mooks don't seem impotent.

Han's death felt necessary and I didn't find it earth-shattering. I found myself much more concerned about black stormtrooper guy whose name is escaping me at the end and whether he would live.

Agree that it seems like you can build a death star by snapping your fingers.

I'm 100% certain that Rey or whatever her name is is Luke's daughter. Meh, fine. We can pretend the **** in Episode II about Jedi not marrying or w/e never ****ing happened and I'll be happier for it.

I liked it enough that I will go see the sequel.

Not unthinkable if she just leads a squad of 20 troopers or the like (and the squad has a fixed paramedic slot to aid them) ... and after his return from Jakku (where he took off his helmet) she would also remember him for his unusual behavior.
That FN-2187 would end in an elite squad, on the other hand, is by itself unusual/strange ... considering that he is a noob (it was his first mission).
Perhaps the hypothesis is right that FN-2187 also has well known parents (one of them being Lando Calrissian) and his kid (after capturing it by unknown means) was high profile enough to brainwash them and then get it under the close watch by the best stormtrooper captain of the order

Of course, as we all know from Star Wars IV, there is a way out ot imperial trash compactors
On the other hand, also from Star Wars IV, we know that storm trooper helmets have integrated radio communicators ....
one would assume that this makes it impossible to catch and interrogate a stormtrooper, without him/her being able to alarm the next highest command node. (at least unless you get him/her to take off the helmet first)

Yep it works this way ...
Vader in Star Wars IV for example, was able to sense the presence of Obi Wan on the death star ...
but until the rebels made their dash for the Hangar (where the Millenium Falcon was stored) he wasn´t able to find him and get him to a duel.

(and I guess the fact that the NR now is decapitated may have an impact in episode VIII and IX)
