    1) Given the fact that Rey was using mind tricks and defeated a Sith Lord in personal combat without the benefit of ever having seen a lightsaber or a Jedi before, why exactly did she need to have training from Luke?

    2) I really hope she's not a Skywalker.

    3) How exactly does the Empire/First Order find the time to develop and build the constant array of super weapons they always seem to have?

        1. The force is strong in my family ... my father has it ... my sister has it ... I have it ... and you have it, too. But Ben, on the other hand, is no Sith Lord ... he is just an adept of the force who has learned to pull some little tricks that impress those weak of mind

        2. I guess she is ... either this or she is Leias daughter and Ben pulled some mind tricks on his parent in order to make them forget that they ever had a daughter. But the latter IMHO is rather improbable, considering that Ben isn´t that strong in the force ... therefore Rey most probably will in fact be Lukes daughter

        3. Especially their super weapons seem to be extremly expensive ... seems like the first order had to sell (almost) all of their star destroyer fleets in order to build Starkiller Base ... why else would there be not a single Star Destroyer in orbit around it?

            1. No indication that Kylo is a "Sith Lord." He doesn't use the epithet "Darth," after all. It's stated he still needs to complete his training, so for all we know he's about as skilled as Luke was on Bespin. Given that he was wounded, I can plausibly see how Rey--assuming she naturally has more raw talent w/ the Force--should be able to hold her own w/ him. But when the fight started, I assumed she was using the Force already. Oh, then we find out she wasn't... and when she does, she kicks his ass. Yeah, that was completely unbelievable.

            2. Well if the abandonment on Jakku isn't a big hint that *someone* ditched her there b/c of her force affinity, I don't know what else is. And why the **** was Leia giving her a big hug at the end, *when they'd never even met before?* Was that giving it away that she's a long-lost child of Han and Leia? BTW, how cold was it that Leia completely ignored Chewie when he got back and walked up and hugged a stranger... ouch.

            3. Yeah, it's dumb. But also, someone needs to ****ing explain to J.J. Abrams about how space works, especially the vast distances that exist between planets even in the same solar system and the concept of the speed of light.

While I generally agree, it should be notet that in contrast to what many people seem to believe, the beam didn´t destroy multiple planets in the Hosnian system, but only Hosnian Prime and its 4 moons
              See also here:
[18]A Resistance pilot after destroying an enemy fighter Hosnian Prime was a planet in the Hosnian system of the Core Worlds, located along the Corellian Trade Spine. Thirty years after the Battle of Endor, it served as the headquarters of the Galactic Senate and was the galactic capital of the New Republic during the Cold War with the First Order. In 34 ABY, seeking to rid the galaxy of what it saw as the illegitimate Republic government, the First Order used its superweapon, Starkiller Base, t

Aside from this I agree ... it was a little bit unbelievable that people in entirely different systems would be able to see the beam of the Starkiller Base (especially considering that the beam was supposed to travel in Hyperspace)

Even if they were moons, the distance explicitly shown in the space shots was absurd.

And I'd assumed that the resistance was on another planet in the same system. But if they were in an entirely different star system, then it isn't just a "bit unbelievable," it's positively insulting. Considering it takes 4 years for us to see light from a our nearest star...

was I too high to remember?

but, did the movie explain how that red leader pilot guy survive the tie fighter crash?

because he reappeared, expectedly, but without explanation iirc

More questions: 1) Why was the capital of the Republic not Coruscant?

                      2) This one harkens back to Boris's response, do Sith Lords not cover dueling techniques anymore with apprentices?

                      3) Are we to believe that the Empire/First Order used the resources necessary to build Starkiller Base only for it to be a 2 shot weapon? Did I miss anything stating that they slapped a hyperspace engine on the planet?

Sava: I believe it was stated that he was thrown from the crash and when he woke up both Finn and the ship were gone.

Crap movie. Visually spectacular, but crap nonetheless.

Abrams basically 'Jurassic Worlded' Star Wars - it was basically a reboot by numbers of A New Hope. A handing over of the baton from the older actors to the new ones.

Also, Andy Serkis as a giant Gollum FFS.

The more I think about it, the more disappointed I get.

Well, according to this official map:

It is even more ridiculous ...
D´qar (where the rebels are located) lies in an outer arm of the galaxy ... Takodana (where Han & Co met Maz Kanata) lies in a closer arm to the core ... but Hosnian Prime (seat of the new republic and target ot the Starkiller beam) lies directly at the rim of the galacy core.
Even if lightspeed were high enough to cover the distance instantaneously, the viewing angle would be too tiny than to have the starkiller beams be visible as lengthy beams and to travel over a portion of the sky (aside from the fact that the starkiller beams would be too brim to be seen as they would be oversjhone from the masses of stars in the galactic core (not to mention the inverse square law which would make it outright impossible to see them at this distance))

Which makes the distance between those systems thousands, of lightyears.
Considering the fact that, according to the map, als Starkiller base lies on the other side of the core (if looked at from D´Quar one can also assume that it would take days of Hypertravel to reach the system (at least I always assumed that the hyperspace travel time from Tatooine to Alderaan was several days ... and that system is supposed to lie in the galactic core ... most probably a shorter distance than the distance D´Qar <-> Starkiller Base ... or Starkiller Base <-> Hosnian)

So, there are lots of things you can nitpick at
I for my part have stopped it long ago, considering that we talk about a SciFi "universe" in which spaceships fly around wikth the same behavior as atmospheric jetfighters

According to what I read the new republic opted to change the capital during each election period, in order to prevent the corruption thet plagued the old republic

Ben was wounded by Chewis bowcaster prior to the fight ... also, considering his weakness with the force powers against someone untrained (i.e. Rey) perhaps he didn´t get much additional training after getting curropted by Snokes influence (we don´t even know if Snokes if a Sith Lord ... maybe he isn´t and Ben just got corrupted by the dark side by his own anger and fear (and, after he quit his training in Lukes academy (and he probably murdered his fellow apprentices in Lukes absence) there wasn´t anyone to continue his teaching.

Starkiller base was supposed to be Hyperjump capable (and travel from star to star in order to suck it dry and power the weapon)
