Are Mormons Christian?

What do they know? Meaning, on what basis does the typical pentecostal claim to be a Christian?

Almost all of the Christian fundamentalists who I've met (and I don't know how much overlap there is between "fundamentalist" and "pentecostal") a. claim to believe that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and b. say that they have not read all or even most of the Bible, which has always struck me as being inconsistent to the point of being outright bull****.

I am a believer in big tent Christianity. Not so big tent that I think it is possible to be an atheist and a Christian (like some, particularly in Sweden). But big tent.

One thing is that if you go to the majority of Christians in most places, they don't know the theological intricacies, positions and arguments. Many don't even know that Jesus being God is the standard Christian position. This is especially true in pentecostal/etc movements which don't emphasize study.

I read the Bible and became a Christian before going to church. After 8 years of going to church (I do so to obey God), I'm finding that that's not usually the case, and it makes a big difference. If you go to church and then become a Christian you believe different. Even if you say that you don't you usually do. There maybe exceptions, but I don't come across them.

You don't need church to be a Christian. It probably hinders you. But it's a command.

seems like if you didn't learn it growing up and outgrow it naturally, then you end up at this stunted religious development level, personally

Reading the bible as a way to gedt to christianity ... interesting ... normally it works the other way round ... reading the bible as a reason to quit christianity

(which is how it worked for me as well ... after reading the old testament (which, funny enough, I did thanks to the merican christian fundamentalists) I knew that I couldn´t call myself a christian anymore ... because if the fundament is flawed (the old testament) how can I then believe in somethinmg that builds upon this fundament? Hasn´t made me into an atheist (unlike the many other people wh read the bible) but rather turned me into something akin to the unitarian universalists .... believing that the multitude of faiths on earth may point to something higherr, but that not one faith is the true one ... and that everyone has to find his own faith (as long as it is socially acceptable) for his/her spiritual journey)

I think Christianity is much different from the other faiths. In fact, many Christians believe much differently. Most of them are wrong, IMO. He came to this earth as a regular man. He offers full forgiveness for sins to any who will surrender all to Him. This is just part of what makes Christianity unique. Other religions don't have anything for me. I would never have believed in any of them, and I never have saw a reason to believe in any of them since becoming religious.

The Nicene Creed directly mentions Jesus's divinity, but you need to speak Ye Olde English to know that

The only time I ever heard the Apostle's Creed was prior to First Communion - we were essentially told "here's a prayer to memorize and then forget." That was also the only time I was taught about Jesus's descent into Hell, which isn't mentioned in the Nicene Creed - I think the Catholic belief is that the pre-Christ venial sinners went to Purgatory, and so the descent into Hell wasn't needed.

If you're going by the Creed to define a Christian it should be noted that the original creed did not say that he descended into Hell.

The creed we in germany learn (AFAIK with this passage both catholics and protestants) says that he descended into the realm of death
(which sounds original, considering that AFAIK before the invention of "hell" the early christians believed that there is only an equivalent of Hades)
