I was also wondering: when did the norse gods came to the scene? were they like the indians 10 centuries late?
there is also a similatiry with the turks.
both germanics and turks changed their alphabets to alphabets. ones from runes to the alphabet and the other from those funky arabic letters to the alphabet. no integrity
also did those gods ever did something or were they just banging eachother on the head with sausages?
HARRR
ok I stop

Ah, Friday. Today is easy. Two classes, some video lectures I have to watch and philosophy readings I have to read, then a quiz on those videos/readings. Then work until 10. Still in constant pain, obvs. But anyway, yeah, an easy day.Click here if you're having trouble sleeping.

According to this:
The first use of a 7 day week seems to have been by the Sumerians and (no surprise, considering their babylonian captivity) later adopted by the jews. Perhaps it was also Sumerian/Babylonian influence that brought it to asia, considering that the indians first mentioned a 7 day week between first century BC and first century AD and the chinese even later (4th century AD)
The romans however first had an 8 day week .... and only adopted the 7 day week with the introduction of the julian calendar.
The greek on the other hand (at least this article seems to hint at it) seem to not having possessed something like a regular week ... instead a month would be roughly divided into 3 parts, depending on the phases of the moon (i.e. a roughly 10 day week)).
Seems like the development of a general 7 day week in all cultures has been a rather long process
IMHO it will get extremly interesting if mankind ever is able to have colonies of significant sizes on other planets (maybe even other planets outside of the solar system).
Will there be local calendars (with individual lengths of days/weeks/months and years)? Will there be an empire wide used calendar/time format that will differ significantly from our Gergorian calendar? Or will, because of tradition, at least empire wide the Gregorian calendar stay?Last edited by Proteus_MST; October 24, 2015, 06:36.Tamsin (Lost Girl): "I am the Harbinger of Death.
