See post 5. This isn't the first I've heard of their being vaguely religious.

You can't label someone childish and punish them. That's not a free society.

        From wiki :

They seek guidance and strength through prayer and meditation from God or a Higher Power of their own understanding
That could be Baal, Thor, Zeus or just their own thoughts.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Do you really think that you live in a free society ?

Why should God be included in anyway? By simply stating higher power of understanding wouldn't those that are religious automatically make the connection? It seems to include God verbiage is for the non-believers benefit aka:conversion tactics via slight of hand.

I've never been in AA so I can't say, but my friend Rick is not remotely religious, he's gone through it, and he no longer drinks and still doesn't pray. Seems to work just fine.

Addicts sometimes blame God. Making peace with God is part of their recovery.

Then, obviously, those individuals are already religious, that is their personal understanding of a higher authority. For those that blame more realistic issues, someone else's idea of God will not be helpful. It all boils down to learning personal responsibilty whether it is AA or in this case, parenting classes.

The higher power has to be able to restore you to sanity. Newcomers are told that they can use a sponsor at first, but eventually they use God. Because a sponsor can't restore you to sanity

Uh huh, and you don't see where this would violate separation of church and state when one is court ordered to attend?

Probably. It doesn't bother me since they broke a law.

What? It doesn't bother you when the court system circumvents the law of the land?

It might be the best thing for drunk drivers.

Wouldn't counseling accepting personal responsibility for an individual's irresponsible choices be more helpful? Whether for drunk drivers, parenting classes, etc.

My point being....why does religion need to be thrown into nonreligious faces if it is not ultimately to convert. There are private counselors that are quite secular, no religion pushed. Why not allow a choice?
