    Here's today's "news":

Millions of people still die of cancer
Millions of people still starve to death
South Korea is still a better place to live than North Korea
You shouldn't lick a metal pole when it's freezing outside
You should look for traffic when you cross a street, crossing a busy highway is probably a bad idea
You should go outside and exercise, the sunlight is good for you, but if you're in the sun a lot wearing sunscreen might be a good idea
Heroin is addictive and taking it recreationally is ill advised
    Sports are still boring
Gravity makes it difficult to leave this planet, also the fact that most of the universe is inhospitable to life.

Again: the story specifically says that two of the three offenders were ultimately fired (they "resigned"). The third apparently doesn't work for the league and thus they have no power to punish him. It is unclear whether the initial firing of the whistleblower (who lost no income from her volunteer position) was the company's idea or simply the private initiative of the one woman against the person who'd brought heat down on her husband. The damage done: "think of the children." In any case, these are at best local figures of note with roles in a trivial organization. If you'd posted "Alderman from Mobile embezzles $200K from city funds," we'd wonder whyTF you thought it noteworthy. This is significantly less serious than that, and we don't wonder. Because it's outrage porn.

No Elok we're supposed to make a general statement about Alabamans based on this one anecdote.

Resigned and fired are not the same thing. If you're going to refer to a story 'specifically' saying something, it's probably better if it actually does that.

No, the inter-racial marriage vote makes a general statement about Alabamans, this is just a story about a couple of specific (see what I did there Elok) Alabamans who happen to be racists.

Okay, the story specifically says they are no longer employed there.

Again: your trivialisation of racism saddens me - especially when you were guilty of racism yourself fairly recently.

Also, this is only a few short weeks after the killings in the church by that confederate flag wielding white supremacist.

This stuff needs to be stamped out with zero tolerance - instead of teaching the kids in their charge that KKK t-shirts are OK...

                      Some actual news:

Representing one of the largest shifts of public opinion in Gallup history, 87% of Americans approve of marriage between blacks and whites, up from 4% in 1958. Older Americans are the least likely to approve.

Alabama was somewhat worse than the rest of the US at the time... so what?

So people should keep pointing out their racism until they actually wise up and stop it?

In the story you cited someone called out someone else on being a racist and the racist lost their job. So what more do you want? You think this should be national news? There's far more egregious examples of racism like someone carrying out a mass shooting in a black church but you think this is what people should be talking about?

Not just the racist person, but the person who called them out. Also the fact that the whistle-blower wasn't given anonymity.

People need to feel safe that they can call out racism without repercussions.

Also, as you point out, the mass shooting only occurred recently. You'd think that people in positions of power over children (Role models!!!) would learn before exposing them to extremely racist t-shirts.

And you're defending them, like this wasn't such a big deal.

Did you miss the thread where we talked about that? Or should we only ever talk about a single worst example of a subject?

I don't care if you want to have a thread about this, but your concern trolling about how you think this should be national news is stupid.
