  • No. No one contacts me on LinkedIn or calls me.

How can I get them to call me? Should I contact them myself? Are you talking about staffing agencies?

That might be a UK thing.

    • Maybe, but jobs on offer include HK, Dubai, Singapore etc. I'd be surprised if it was so limited. I used them in Australia too.

Types of agent range from boutique specialists to generic large scale job marchers like Reed, Hays, Michael Page etc.

      • Nope. I don't receive those offers.

Still no luck even getting a phone call...

        • How willing are you to move? Lotta GS options if you're willing to move to BFE.

          • So, is Al a homeless begger yet or has he actually listened to people who know wtf they are talking about? Inquiring minds want to know.

Seriously, this, either you want a real job or you do not.

If you get a chance, speak to a couple - they won't get you the best job for you, but they can possibly get you a better one than you have now or give you additional choices.
Interestingly, these have slowed down for me - may be a result of having sat at my current employer for 3.5 yrs now or it could be that I'm now being paid enough that people would need to think twice about hiring me (which is at least partially a result of my tenure). I only get 1 or two pings from headhunters a month now, previously it was 2-3 a week

KH, are you trying to give Alby an aneurism or just turn him green with envy?

                  • If I got even one phone call, I'd feel better. As is, I can't even be sure a human sees my cover letter and resume.

                    • Maybe you should change your name to something more European

                      • You'd think the Marine Corps thing would offset the incredibly Arab last name. But maybe they don't get that far. Perhaps he should introduce himself as "Al B. Sure, USMC" just so they're clear that he is totally Amurican?

I don't want GS. If I wanted GS, I'd switch to active duty and make more as a First Lieutenant than I would make in GS.

I want private sector banking employment.

And I already plan to relocate to New York/New Jersey.

                              • Dude, if you literally can't find anything in the private sector, and you're whining about your job, you need to cast a wider net. Plenty of jobs in the Treasury or commerce departments, for example.
