  • US Muslims rally to help US Black Christians from the concerted onslaught of US White Terrorism against them

Muslim charities are helping to raise money for burned black churches in US

Eight black churches have been burned down since the Charleston shootings, and Muslim charities have succeeded in their goal to raise $20,000 in an effort to rebuild them.

At the time of writing the project, launched last Thursday, has raised $21,688 (£14,000) from 495 contributors, making the mean donation in the region of $44.

A statement on the fundraising page said:

All houses of worship are sanctuaries, a place where all should feel safe, a place we can seek refuge when the world is too much to bear.

We are calling on you to help add our support to faith communities across the country pooling their resources to rebuild these churches.

As Muslims we know the importance of protecting the vulnerable and respecting people who call on God in their various tongues.

We must always keep in mind that the Muslim community and the black community are not different communities.

We are profoundly integrated in many ways, in our overlapping identities and in our relationship to this great and complicated country.

Three of the church burnings have been ruled arsons and the others are still under investigation.

"They're being investigated to determine who is responsible and what motives are behind them," FBI spokesman Paul Bresson told BuzzFeed News.

I thought this deserved a separate thread to my clearly aptly titled 'US War on Blacks' thread, given the Muslim dynamic...

I think that this thread title is fairly accurate too. Unfortunately.

    So, yay Muslims!

It would be interesting to see how much white Christian charities have raised in comparison.

I dunno. A charity advertising itself as a White charity sounds a bit racist. Such organizations might not send anything.

On our way south, the wife and I saw a very large number of signs for churches with pictures of the preacher and his wife on them. The wife wondered aloud why that was. I asked her if any of the preachers were white. Why, no, they weren't. There you go, hon--unless the church happens to be AME, they don't really have any polite way of advertising HEY GUYS THIS IS A BLACK CHURCH CRACKERS NOT EXACTLY UNWELCOME BUT IT'D BE WEIRD YO.

I feel the same way when I see pictures of real estate agents who are white.

But seriously, that is so obviously kneejerk racist that I'm surprised you shared it.

Thank you for letting me know I wasn't the only one who though Elok's response was way way more troublesome than billboards with a black pastor on them.

                edit: Dashi too.

It actually made me uncomfortable to read the post (I generally think Elok is a decent person, so that's probably why... someone else I may have just been, well of course they are racist, so it figures).

I am seriously disappointed in Elok because of the extreme racism, hatred, and bigotry in his poast.

He was describing how things work so the situation might be slightly racially tinged but he can hardly be blamed for accurately explaining it to his wife.

Because 911 was a CIA plot.

Racist? Not at all. Some churches are culturally black, and that's fine by me. But race is such a delicate subject in this country that we can't just come right out and say, "Holy Zion Church, a black community." Nope, gotta tiptoe around it with little signals. That strikes me as funny. Apologies if you were offended.

Oh well. I probably had this coming, karmically, for telling Dinner he should've expected people to be offended by the young-girl-love thread. People in aspie houses shouldn't throw did-you-really-just-say-that stones, and all that.

Here's a slight counterpoint... now granted this church is trying to get this billboard up...
