Shaming does not work terribly well in a society as individualistic and libertine as our own. Unless it's an absolute targeted dogpile, like we use on celebrities who say racist things.
Then why is Sava having a conniption fit and calling me "developmentally disabled" over fat people getting shamed? If it doesn't affect their behavior it can't be having much of an effect on their quality of life. Assuming, of course, that obesity is a product of incentives. Compared to what racial minorities or gay people experience, the shaming of fat people seems pretty trivial. Being able to get morbidly obese is in part a product of privileges the majority of the world's population don't enjoy.
I read that black kids in america are fat because they don't have enough money to buy meat and stuff so they only eat pasta and other hydrocarbonates. This doesn't nourish them but leaves them hungry so they eat more and thus get fat.
Point being that being fat means being poor too.
And kentonio was talking about shaming the parents not the kids.
Even that actor that played ironman got acquited for drug use because his parents made him smoke pot at an early age and basically screwed up his system into seeking drugs as an adult too. (same with food that renders fat)
fast food chains would have absolutely no problem in selling salads from day to night if it brought them profits.
Salads don't sell as well as meat because the human body is programmed into seeking high protein storage food from the days it was a hunter.
I agree with free markets simply cheering everyone into a cliff (GMOs included)
As a prime example, dinner was some black eyed beans with onion, chilly, virgin olive oil vinegar and hymalayah salt.
Very healthy.
But I'm eating a delicious turkey sandwich with ketchap
ah crap then
And I actually thought it came from the himalayas
I knew something was fishy because you can find it everywhere. How much production do the hymalayas have?
The Himalayas are world renowned for their production of sea salt.
Libraries are state sanctioned, so they're technically engaged in privateering. - Felch
I thought we're trying to have a serious discussion? It says serious in the thread title!- Al. B. Sure

There are cheap sources of protein. It's not harder to afford food than it was fifty years ago so I don't think this is a very good explanation.
Your attitude on thus subject is that of an asshile. I think you know this and are frantically grasping for straws
Dishonesty? Your response to me was immediately hostile and presumptuous, and didn't bother actually opening up a debate. In short you just threw ****.
Lots of people who are obese have a disorder, much the same as gambling or alcohol addiction. Once they reach that point, no there isn't any point in just making them feel bad about themselves, they need help and support. By labelling it a disease however and saying there's no choice in the matter, you're discouraging people from avoiding the problem in the first place. You're telling parents that its not their fault when their kids wind up obese because of the horrific diets they feed to them.
People don't end up with obesity related eating disorders without having access to foods that create obesity, and kids in particular have terrible impulse control. It's equivalent to giving your kids half a bottle of scotch a night, and then when they become alcoholics saying that no-one is to blame. Sure you can put a lot of the blame onto society that allows the marketing of unhealthy foods, but parents have a lot of control and its about time they started using that in a way that helps their children instead of contributing to their harm.
There's also sea salt which is far superior and it is actually harvested in great quantities in the islands. Very shallow sea waters, sun evaporates the water, leaves the salt.

That's not why I called you that.
You should be able to figure it out eventually... Your mistake
