  • I'm sure that hymalayan salt for one is far better than standard mineral salt and that sea salt is better than mineral salt.
Maybe there are studies that show this too.
However the huge benefits of a mediteranean diet are long verified again and again. It's true that olive oil and other stuff play a bigger factor but salt plays its minor part and is widely accepted that sea salt is far healthier.
    I'll go with that

          • Lifestyles and eating much less processed food has much more to do than the colour of your salt.

Himalayan salt is pink due to its iron content (how do I know? Iron causes pink/red coloring in rock. It's what it does.); that may be the cause for its reputed health benefits in the region, especially if the local diet is otherwise iron-poor, but that's about it. (Disclaimer: I own a lump of Himalayan salt with a light stuck in it as a nightlight; it claims to produce "healthy ions" when the light is on. I just think its pretty.)

Mediterranean salt is a different matter entirely. It does have a mix of salts, but the NaCl content is overwhelming. Also, after thousands of years of civilization doing its thing around it, it is doubtless contaminated with heavy metals and all sorts of other ****. Also, like all salts, sea or mined, it is lacking in iodine, which must be added. I must say that I do prefer the taste.

Mined salts are, as noted above, the remains of ancient dried seas, and as a result, lack the taint of civilization and are thus more "natural" than any modern sea salt.
