It wouldn't be the first ship of that size in that universe to crash land relatively intact.: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Star_of_Coruscant

It's not Chewie being killed by a falling moon but I will grant you that it is no Grand Admiral Thrawn.

I don't expect realism, but I do expect constant application of whatever in universe rules have been established. There are several instances of SW ships not surviving collisions with objects involving forces far smaller than whatever forces as ISD or Executor would suffer falling from orbit. At least two actually involved an ISD and another an Executor. Most are no longer canon so who knows.

Whatever, it makes a good visual

I am still not a fan of the Applefication of the storms troopers though. But at least it appears they are using actual actors in costume for the most part instead of the prequel cGI trash.

              Mission to Sernpidal and aftermath

"You left him! You left Chewie!"
―Han to his son Anakin after Chewie's death[src]

In 25 ABY, Chewbacca, Han Solo and his youngest son Anakin were sent by Lando Calrissian to pick up a shipment on Sernpidal. When they arrived, the Solos and Chewbacca met an old man, the former mayor of Sernpidal City, who informed them that Dobido was headed on a collision course with Sernpidal and that it was orbiting its host quickly, dropping closer to Sernpidal at regular intervals. While Chewbacca and Han began loading as many people as they could onto the Falcon, Anakin rushed off into Sernpidal City with the mayor in tow. Chewie and Solo managed to evacuate as many people as they could hold, managing to rescue thousands of Sernpidalians, using the Millennium Falcon and various other starships.

Anakin calculated Dobido would collide with Sernpidal in seven hours. This event, unbeknownst to them, was a result of the Yuuzhan Vong tactic, Yo'gand's Core. As the winds picked up, Anakin was knocked into the distance, causing Chewie to run after him. Chewie was able to bring Anakin to safety on the Falcon, but another blast of wind knocked him out of reach. Anakin piloted the Falcon, while his father stood on the entrance ramp hoping to lift Chewie up, but was forced to flee from Sernpidal when he realized it was too late to save Chewie. The Wookiee stood in the moon's trajectory, howling defiantly, and was crushed to death with those Sernpidalians who could not escape. His death drove Han to a resentment of his son Anakin. Han eventually recovered and forgave his son, but the death of his battle-brother and dearest companion would stick with him forever.

Chewbacca, known affectionately to his friends as Chewie, was a Wookiee male warrior, smuggler, mechanic, pilot, and resistance fighter who fought in the Clone Wars, the Galactic Civil War, the Cold War, and the subsequent First Order-Resistance War. He hailed from the planet Kashyyyk where he was born during the High Republic Era and became a Wookiee military leader. During the Clone Wars, he was captured by Trandoshan slavers and held captive on Wasskah, but he worked with a fellow...

Disgusting. Why does anyone read this the star wars books?

I don't understand why you'd ever bother to CGI stormtroopers. It's not like it's hard to find extras to be in a star wars movie, and they can be butt ugly since they're wearing a big white body covering armor suit.

What self said. We have no idea what the nature of the Star Destroyer's fall from orbit was like, so we have no way of knowing what its impact would be like.

When Han says "We're home", I was reminded of his and Chewie's attempt to make it home in time for Wookie Life Day. The movie is coming out around Christmas afterall.
