Which, of course means that the federal government doesn't provide money grants for education...

What kind of lefty are you. Those cuts would be absolutely devastating to the poor and needy. I'd rather have another war than drastic cuts to Section 8 housing, K-12 education, EITC, and the Child Tax Credit. Drastically cutting the EPA, National Science Foundation, and HHS would set back left leaning causes as well.
I would rather not have a war costing trillions and hundreds of thousands of lives lost. I think it would be a bit more devastating.
Additionally, after Rand Paul I suspect that the US would get a lefty on that... (and probably end up in a better place than we are now) while we seem capable of going into war after war after war.

(once more, this is assuming that I believe Rand about being non-interventionist)

Plus you'd loose your government job.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio
Not really. Rand's budget cuts don't appear to significantly affect the Department of Labor, and especially not the agency that regulates Pension obligations (we were deemed so impt that Dubya raised our budget every year he was President).

How did well has that worked after Reagan was President? Have we even gotten someone as left as Nixon since?

Wow, Imran may actually work for the very part of DoL that causes my dad so many headaches. Explains a lot
Good. People who don't pay their employees their pensions are crooks (which is also why we initiate criminal investigations) and should be given headaches.

The things that people like Paul are likely to cut aren't the ones you listed by the way. They'd set up Medicare and Medicaid to be a voucher system like Medicare Part D. That would basically solve dozens of problems in the healthcare industry and the federal deficit in one fell swoop.
What happens to people who need more healthcare than their voucher provides?
OK I want to apologize for my last post it was unnecessarily harsh Imran. I was only meaning to tease. Apologies if you were offended
FYI My dad likes and respects most of the people he works with at DoL.
They do however give him significant headaches a lot of the time, and some of the rules they come up with for pension funding are in his opinion pretty bonkers. But there is room for controversy and disagreement.

The samething that happens in the UK under NICE. They probably die.

Most TPAs / legal counsel are nice as well. Only a handful are *******s (but that's because any percentage of people are *******s - we definitely have our ******* investigators as well).

Bureaucrats need to be offended from time to time. It's good for them.

There is a finite supply of healthcare, kentonio. It has to be rationed somehow. Right now the rationing occurs when doctors refuse to take additional medicaid or medicare patients because it is unprofitable. Switching to a voucher system would increase supply, since people could pay their doctors more for care, encouraging a greater supply of doctors.
