I'd rather have another war than drastic cuts to Section 8 housing, K-12 education, EITC, and the Child Tax Credit. Drastically cutting the EPA, National Science Foundation, and HHS would set back left leaning causes as well.
Additionally, after Rand Paul I suspect that the US would get a lefty on that... (and probably end up in a better place than we are now) while we seem capable of going into war after war after war.

FYI My dad likes and respects most of the people he works with at DoL.
They do however give him significant headaches a lot of the time, and some of the rules they come up with for pension funding are in his opinion pretty bonkers. But there is room for controversy and disagreement.If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

There is a finite supply of healthcare, kentonio. It has to be rationed somehow. Right now the rationing occurs when doctors refuse to take additional medicaid or medicare patients because it is unprofitable.
