Not in the slightest. An 'I know better than the proles' attitude would involve not giving them the chance to choose for themselves, wouldn't it?

You appear to show no interest in listening to opinion polls about what people actually want, so what's the difference? Your definition of choice appears to mean ignoring people's choice and insist on a change very few people are asking for.

      • Prince Philip brings so much harmony and joy to the OT. Like wherever he goes.
Any views I may express here are personal and certainly do not in any way reflect the views of my employer. Tis the rising of the moon..

Look, I just don't anymore, okay?

I think you'll find I actually highlighted several of the findings. However, once again I'm going to remind you that a snap opinion poll in one newspaper is not democratically effective.

If you want the issue voted on, vote properly. A starting point would be a national referendum, with all the issues debated beforehand and the question "I believe the head of state should be elected by the people".

          • The Australian PM is likely to lose his job next week. Prince Philip was the catalyst. This is the stability monarchy brings.

Ah so we can't use polls to gauge public opinion, we should just hold national referendum at the cost of millions of pounds on things that you personally think are important? Ok, then..

              • Yes. Absolutely right. Because how did you vote in it?

I suspect the same as me- you weren't given the chance. Hence the democratic failure.

Meanwhile, if this poll is so effective for you, why are you ignoring the bits about bypassing Prince Charles and the doubts about funding?

The poll? Are you seriously suggesting that polls are only accurate if everyone in the country gets to participate?

So when Prince Charles is actually about to ascend to the throne, perhaps we can look again at the polls. Currently though you're insisting we should hold costly referenda based purely on your own beliefs.

Let's test it with science by comparing it to the result of a proper referendum, and find out.

With the Queen pushing 90 and already starting to step back from public duties, that time would appear to be about now.

                      Charles = tampon

Worldwide the monarchy will lose some of it's luster if he ever ascends to the throne.
Then you can have the worst of both worlds, an expensive and unpopular monarchy.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

                      • As for the cost- it would probably be comparable to the 2012 electoral reform referendum which cost an estimated £75 million. If it results in ditching the Sovereign Grant (let alone all the other royal perks) it'll pay for itself in 2 years.

If the royalists win? Well, as you've repeatedly shown in this thread, money is clearly no issue where supporters of the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha are concerned.
