The older you get, the more you realize that looks won't make living with another person any more or less tolerable.

Everyone keeps saying that show is the bombdiggity. Is it?

It is. There's one weak episode but its pretty solid Sci-Fi vignettes done without the constraints of being a serial or having a regular cast.

sounds like Twilight Zone or Outer Limits, I'll have to check it out

I actually kinda wonder, is the net effect of laws like this to make the streets less safe? A deserted street is much more dangerous than a bustling one.
yup, them kids playing out in the street were the first ones to see smoke if there was a fire

I guess paper routes are now totally out of the question.
I spent ~5 years delivering papers before sunrise...and dealing with a bunch of mean dogs, especially one crazy airedale called Mace. He never bit me but he sure enjoyed making my life hell.

              Fascinating.

When I was 8 or 9 I was allowed to walk alone to primary school and back, which was 1 km away
(and that was rather the norm than the exception).
At 10 years when I went to secondary school myself and all others in my class had free bus tickets (paid for by the school if you lived at a certain distance from school) in order to travel from home (in a suburb) to school (in the inner city, 5 kms away) via bus

All things that were seen as pretty normal

Sounds a little bit overprotective from sides of the government authorities what they do to these parents

There's always danger. A 10 year old walking alone to school could easily be kidnapped by a pedophile. Does it happen regularly? No, but it happens enough where it's an issue that needs to be addressed.

This is because laws are made by people who farm their children out to boarding schools and rarely actually see them.

If it happens to one child in a million, does that mean it's worth preventing the other 999,999 from experiencing any form of freedom during their childhoods?

                      Yes.

My next goal is to find a good ratio of cuteness to tolerability.

I've learned that ugly people can be just as intolerable.

Pedophiles aren't actually goblins who hide under sewer grates and snatch away joyfully oblivious schoolchildren.

                            1. A ten-year-old walking alone to school is far more likely to be hit by a car than by a pedophile. Let's plan for the actually significant dangers.
                            2. Randomly kidnapping kids to molest them sounds several orders of magnitude more dangerous than highway prostitution. I would assume that any perv actually dumb enough to do that would not be alive and molesting for very long.

You will be getting an angry letter from the lawyers for the Goblin Anti-Defamation League shortly. Their rep is bad enough without bastards like you comparing them to pedophiles.
