Anyhow, both LOT and Cloverfield made ****loads of money. They're perfectly good examples of popular entertainment.

      Silver Linings Playbook?

        Winter's Bone was good.
        John Brown did nothing wrong.

I don't think you know what the word "****loads of money" mean in a movie context. "X-Men: First Class" made more money than Cloverfield and Lost in Translation COMBINED.

I'm familiar with the concepts of "character" and "story," and that movie certainly had one of those two, and part of the second. A man meets a woman in Tokyo, good so far . . . and then they dick around for a while before saying goodbye, but it's deeply artsy because they act disoriented the whole time. That's not so much a "story" as an "anecdote." Y'know, like she'd tell to her friends: "Hey, did you know I met that guy from the liquor ads this one time? We hung out for a while, it was cool."

Not quite as good as the "two terrible human beings act stupid in the wine country" drama that was Sideways, but still better than the American remake of Crash.

Lost in Translation was about that intangible muffled desperation/melancholy that sometimes permeates life and about how two people who at first glance don't share that much could be emotionally identical in some respects.
It was a good film I thought.

You're better at this than at talking about Russia and the media.

Product of Hollywood's devotion to high concept movies.

Nope, the pictures were only up for about half a day before everyone started taking them down. Even 4chan is taking them down as they get posted.
