Western civilization ? Hyperbolist of the Year award to Silly The Kid.

How exactly are ISIS threatening the intellectual inheritance of the Enlightenment or the Renaissance- both features of Western civilization ? I note they use the internet and Youtube too. Mobile phones as well, computers- you know, all that Western stuff they're bent on destroying.

      You're such a stupid arse.

      • Well, it could be argued that they aren't destroying the Western stuff because they haven't reached it yet. If they have no problem destroying their own cultural relics, Paris, Vienna, Athens and Rome (not saying they'll reach them, just talking intent) are piles of rubble waiting to happen.

'Their own cultural relics' ? Which would be ?

Please don't encourage the stupidity of silly little H.C. . He said 'Western civilization'- which means among other things, the separation of church and state, secularism, the political and intellectual heritage of 2000 years...

          • I didn't mean threaten in the "could overthrow the world order", I mean like 9/11 kind of threaten. Upon rereading, yes, it does read as hyperbolic.

            • The problem with western conservatives' policies for the Middle East is that they aren't very different from middle eastern conservatives' policies for the West.

You haven't noticed the debris fields where tombs, mosques, synagogues and churches used to be?

                • Examples here.

I was wondering if even Mecca was safe. Apparently it isn't.

Reports based on the group’s social media activites speculate that ISIS plans to target Mecca, the all-important, obligatory pilgrimage site for Muslims. The holy city is home to the Al-Masjid al-Haram mosque, held by Muslims to be the most sacred mosque in the world. It includes a granite and marble building called the Kaaba, believed to contain a footprint from Abraham and a cornerstone laid by Muhammad himself.

“If Allah wills, we will kill those who worship stones in Mecca and destroy the Kaaba. People go to Mecca to touch the stones, not for Allah,” said ISIS member Abu Turab Al Mugaddasi , reports APA based on a Turkish news article.

ISIS might be so extreme that it pushes Muslims away from extremism.

One can only hope. Given that Iran has apparently taken the field, and Qatar(?) has given beau coup bucks to the Lebanese army (as opposed to Hezbollah), it might already be happening.

Yes. There are literally zero marines, because marines are panty-twisting pussies who care more about defending their brand name than defending the country, getting riled up on the internet over minutia of military operations and claiming to be riflemen even if they are nothing more than uniformed accountants. So naturally the white house has realized that the Army is the only branch that can be counted upon for ground operations.
