If Netanyahu is right--and I believe he is--that Hamas's strategy is to create "telegenically dead Palestinians", then why is he giving Hamas exactly what it wants?

While I agree that their response is is overkill, just curious, what do you think the proper response is when thousands of rockets are fired at your country by an organization who's charter includes language that they don't recognize your right to exist and what to drive you into the sea?

Somehow I don't think a stern warning will be effective.

Easy. First, I wouldn't invade their land and occupy it.

But nobody worth listening to is suggesting Israel dismantle itself.

It's similar to pre-9-11 planning. The only thing we needed to prevent that was a secure, locked cabin door.

28 people have died in 15 years of Hamas rocket attacks. 28 people is a slow weekend of shootings in Chicago. Frankly, I don't know how anyone can call themselves "American" and not think that urban violence is worse than Hamas rocket attacks.

My "response" to 28 people dead in 15 years would be complete (or near) apathy... beyond doing obvious defensive things like Iron Dome... i.e. the cockpit door.

So let Hamas launch their rockets. If they manage to hit something (with their simultaneously super effective but super ineffective hobby rockets), then the world can be against them.

The best strategy for Israel is to do nothing. Win the propaganda war. They are failing miserably at that.

And yes, nobody has the moral high ground. This is "who is the bigger *******" contest. Israel is winning.

Absolutely I can. I'm hear to point out what's wrong. This isn't an easy fix. I'm not saying it is. But the difficulty of the task at hand is not an excuse for choosing the wrong course of action.

I think at minimum, solutions that don't involve blowing thousands of innocent people to bits should be considered.

When people pop out of tunnels and kill 5 soldiers and you know there are lots of other tunnels, you can't ignore it.
You have to try to detect and destroy those tunnels. How to do it without killing civilians is the real question.
How many civilians is acceptable is the difficult question. 0 or thousands are both probably not reasonable answers to this question.
When those tunnels are under civilian areas, there will be a some civilian damage.

And blowing up people to destroy tunnels, the extent to which both sides are probably exaggerating, is completely unacceptable.

Funny how the critical "death star exhaust port" destruction point for all these tunnels seems to be exactly under civilians... and only civilians. It literally is a wall of Palestinians just stacked over the entire length of these tunnels.

BTW, Mythbusters was able to detect underground digging using a drum in a hole. If IDF can't hear all these tunnels being built, that's their own damn fault.
