He slid to the right, but nobody on the right believed him.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Exactly, no-one on the right believed him and those on the left just saw it as further proof that if elected he'd go along with the more extreme parts of the party.

The entire basis for Romney's politics is what he feels will get him elected. He slid to the left because Massachusetts is liberal. He slid back to the right because the country is more moderate and he definitely didn't slid into Tea Party territory because he realized he wouldn't get elected in a general election with those positions.

Really, with every post you indicate how little you know.

Or, you don't know what are popular center-right GOP positions (FTR, Obamacare is DEEPLY unpopular even among moderate independents - its not being far right to campaign against it.

Ken, it basically seems like you are saying that Romney ran as far to the right as Santorum or Perry which isn't even close to being true.

Since when was quoting your own words back to you an ad hominem?

It is, in fact, quite impossible for Romney to do so, because unlike Santorum and Perry, he is not a functionally illiterate moron. He's just a completely amoral craven ****heel.

He slid right because the prevailing position in the Republican party at the time was very far right and that was the only way he could win the primary. A primary you may remember where Rick ****ing Santorum was briefly leading. After the primaries he tried to become more centrist but had his quotes from the primaries hanging around his neck along with an extremely vocal tea party crowd ready to pick him up on any abandonment of his previous promises. If he'd swung only as far right as the moderate centre he'd have won the election, something he notably completely failed to do.

Obamacare polls badly as a single item but then polls favourably when poll recipients are asked about the items is contains.

It's not just about Obamacare though, Romney also moved from being pro-choice to fiercely pro-life, from full equality for gays to fighting gay marraige, from supporting assault weapon bans to pretending to be a firm friend of the NRA and from being open to immigration reform to being a strident opponent. Oh and let's not forget those massive corporate tax cuts he wanted.

Please tell me more about how these are all moderate independent positions though.

You've yet to demonstrate in any meaningful fashion how I'm wrong in that assessment.

Given your 'blind man in a shooting range' hit rate when it comes to politics, I'm fine with that.

I'm sure people were polled on every single item in Obamacare.
