For the last six weeks it has more or less constantly been 20-30 degrees above normal and the usual "May grey/June Gloom" has been completely absent so instead of the 70 degrees and slightly overcast forecast we've had 96 degrees, not a cloud in the sky except for the giant plumes of smoke & ash from the numerous wild fires which covers everything (especially my BMWOriginally posted by Nikolai View PostClimate change in Norway: Cold and wet summers, warm and wet winters. ) and 50 mph winds out of the deserts. This is unheard of for this time of year. We're talking 100 year olds saying they have never heard of anything like it and I'm pissed off because even the crappy air conditioning machines at work are giving out. It was 91 degrees today in the office tower after the AC gave out. Hell, most buildings here don't even have AC because it is usually not needed. Like for decades not needed. As it is I was about to tell my boss to piss off and that I was going home.

It's El Nino:
Meteorologists predict that we may see an El Nino in 2014, which means that it might be a good time to brush up on what the heck this supposedly terrifying weather phenomenon actually is. So what is an El Nino? According to NOAA, El Nino "refers to the large-scale ocean-atmosphere climate interaction linked to a periodic warming in sea surface temperatures across the central and east-central Equatorial Pacific." In other words, warmer water in the Pacific that messes up normal weather patterns across our continent. An El Nino event typically occurs once every several years.
ACK!
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust!
