This is a big ol' empty house outside OT, and CFC isn't going to bend to accommodate other tastes, but we can. There's room. I'm sure you'd like the dog this tail wags to be healthy, right? Civil OT can grow to be part of that, with no need for partisans doing anything to spoil each other's fun. It neither breaks your leg nor picks your pocket, as Jefferson said.

Civil discussions can happen in the on topic forums. Very few instances happened where people were told to take it to the OT. When our on topic gets the traffic that it becomes an issue, then think about a civil ot. OT by definition is a off topic free for all. JMO

Well guess what? I've been checking by OT every day since the hack, but I didn't think this place was very entertaining until I got involved. I thought the panda OT was entertaining until I wasn't involved - a browse there is not really worth the trouble. CFC? Don't get me started. I can't even stand to look at the BE folder to steal links for my own BE. Red letters every tenth post make me see red. Communities you're not involved in have a higher threshold to entertain you.

You may be right about the timing issue, but that's arguable. Community building takes time. It's a big part of my hobby, and it takes time. Civil is more appealing to the target audience when the hoped-for BE flood happens if it's already going when they start showing up. Cross my heart.

Walking down the sidewalk. In the middle of the walkway there's a big pile of steamy, stinking dog ****. You have two choices, you can take off your shoes and socks and jump into the pile with both feet, or you can simply go around.

Going around doesn't make you scared of the ****, it's just common sense.
