Christians today mostly don't weight how much he talked about love and mercy and charity and forgiveness nearly heavily enough.
We need God's mercy and we need to humble ourselves beyond what we think is possible. We need to pray for humility and praise God in the valley. It's a journey.

    • Sure. Complete agreement.

I don't think Jesus would approve of what was done to those girls, BTW, but I haven't the foggiest what he would think ought to be done. He REALLY didn't approve of violence.

      • No. He didn't involve himself with those things, except to heal. It's hard to accept those things but we have faith that all things work for the glory of God

        • If you read the old testament, one of the primary reasons (right up there with worshiping other gods) for God to be upset at Israel were because the rich did not help the poor (and stranger and slave and so on).

I have been following this Nigeria thing, apparently girls in all of that area are kept from education. I think in this case the government should be involved (They have not been, even knowing about it hours ahead of time and doing nothing. That makes this partly responsible I Think, and if I Was a Nigerian I would get another government).

Kid, you're a Protestant, aren't you? New Covenant, man - the stuff about the wrath of God is in the front of the book, and you believe in the stuff in the back, don't you?
I'm in the middle of the Old Testament right now.

            • Past the best stories then, I think. Man I loved reading Kings and Chronicles instead of listening to the preacher as a kid.

I'm almost finished with the book, Psalms.

                  • Much of the OT is valuable even for non-believers, such as Proverbs, Psalms, Job, and Ecclesiastes.

That's on the money, right there.

Do you disagree that christian nations tend to have closer relations with each other than with other nations?
Yeah, Serbia had a real close relationship with Croatia a decade or so ago. It involved ethnic cleansing and genocide.

                      Those well known Christian activities.

And, not to Godwinize, but it is important, the Nazi German state had a national church and a Concordat with Rome.

Do you... uh... do you remember what Europe used to be like?
I'll happily remind him: in WWI, Christian Germany and Christian Austria-Hungary made war on Christian Serbia, Montenegro, Rumania, Russia, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Belgium and Luxembourg.

They were of course allied with the mainly Muslim Ottoman Empire....

As well as attacks on schools, the militant group known as Boko Haram, has hit military installations such as the main barracks in the city of Maiduguri.

You know that Parable about the Good Samaritan ? The Samaritans weren't exactly the same faith as other Jews.

25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

26 He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?

27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.

29 But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

30 And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

31 And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

32 And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.

33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,

34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

35 And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.

36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?

37 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.
A priest and a Levite pass by- are you getting the message ?
