That doesn't change the basic truth that generally america has an interest in christianity around the world.

I don't know if you American folks have a special bible rewritten by a banker or lawyer or something, but the one I grew up with was about doing the difficult stuff not the easy stuff. Trying to help the poor, reaching out to those who consider you an enemy, and showing compassion and kindness to everyone regardless of how they treat you.
And all that's true. There's also a lot in the Bible about how to treat fellow believers and the oneness of the church.

Do you... uh... do you remember what Europe used to be like?

I was arguing just with you saying America was a Christian nation. I'm just glad you're now accepting that is not true.

Yet you only seem to be interested in the easy stuff. Why is that?

Kid, you're a Protestant, aren't you? New Covenant, man - the stuff about the wrath of God is in the front of the book, and you believe in the stuff in the back, don't you?
The stuff about the wrath of God is in both the front and back.

I attend a Protenstant church, but being an existentialist I don't consider myself any denomination. That said I consider other christians my brothers and sisters in Christ, which is different than my relationship with the rest of humanity.

            • You might find googling New Covenant and reading up informative, if you're not already familiar with the doctrine.

My take, not what it says, is that the value declines the further in The Book one gets from those red letter parts... And Rabbi Ben Joseph was all about the love and forgiveness...

The wrath in the back is almost all in Revelations, which is mostly a warning to get right with Jesus...

What do you mean? You don't think I'm wealthy, do you? I'm not. First I help my church. Then I help my friends (christian brothers first). I don't have money for poor atheists. If I did I would help them.

Look, the Bible says in the beginning they all shared everything with each other.

The bible says that Jesus encouraged his disciples to give up their worldly possessions to help the poor, not just to share it amongst the other disciples.

For me, doctrine is not important. What's important is my spiritual growth and relationship with God. The whole Bible is there to help the follower of Jesus. But I don't even put emphasis on original sin and all that.

Marx spoke of Jesus as an early proto communist, actually - and so did I, before I knew Marx had. It's all there in Acts and the letters.

In Acts the poor is mostly (if not entirely) the poor believers.

Like I said, you aren't wrong that we are commanded to serve all of humanity.

He's really talking about the Law, but proclaiming himself the Son of God and the Way. Although I say it goes deeper than that.

                              • "I am not come to destroy the law, but fulfill it." and "No one gets to the Father but by me." and "Suffer the little children to come unto me" and "Love the Lord thy God with all your heart, and love your neighbor as thyself" and something about forgiving your enemy not once, not seven times, but seven by seventy I don't remember quite well enough to try to quote, and "If a man demands your coat, give him also your overcoat" and the turn the other cheek one.

Christians today mostly don't weight how much he talked about love and mercy and charity and forgiveness nearly heavily enough.
