The retro-mod thread has spilled over to page five now in 25 hours - it's pretty impressive for a site focused on one venerable game, and all because a newb was inspired by the BE news.

See, after the Civ5 crash, we'd be stupid not to be gun-shy. But BE's the biggest thing since to come along for straight Civ sites like this and a more focused one like AC2, alike, in ages. I think the best strategy to capitalize and brace, both, is to shore up what we already do; covering the old games. If we have our houses in order when the BE newb-flood comes this fall, if they find active forums for old favorites full of mods, goodies, information and good conversation, some of them should stick whether BE is any good or not.

I don't think we're in a lot of danger of a crash like with Civ5; everybody got really worked up the last time, and you gentlemen () reading this are the ones who didn't wander off when the disappointment set in.

BE is an OPPORTUNITY - we just gotta be ready with a live dog to keep some newb fleas.

So go post (on-topic, ya yardapes) in CivII, or whatever your preferred poison is, once in a while. Try to talk to each other and answer any newb question if you can. Ask you own questions. Pull out your favorite mod, play a little and talk about it. Make an extra effort. It won't happen fast, and it won't be incredibly easy, but all it really takes is a little posting and a lot of persistence. This can be a gaming site again, and the quality of the bullcrap we talk in OT will only be improved by some fresh meat new blood. You can do it, in between talking crap in here.

Yah, but the last visit from someone at Firaxis seems to have been in 2010 ... if it's any consolation, it doesn't seem they're active even at CivFanatics.

Will Miller, one of the co-lead designers, is on Twitter and seems pretty responsive to fans. My guess is he's not the person we would need to talk to, but if we approach him and tell him who we are, he might be able to point us toward a producer who can.
