Probably have a bad disc, I suppose.

As to the mod, it is Revolution and Religion (or maybe the other way around), found at civfanatics. Adds more... more. More production chains, more resources, more leaders, more units, more founding fathers, more events... fleshes it out quite a bit.

    • is this mod for the original? or the civ4?
To us, it is the BEAST.

      • Civ4.

I'm not sure what sort of mods, if any, are available for original flavor.

Gameplay seems almost identical. It's Civ 4's graphics. I haven't played it for a while.

            • Takes a bit of getting used to; one forgets how different it is from Civ in general, and Civ5 in particular. But yes, I enjoy it rather a lot. The base game is almost entirely a reskinning of the original game in the Civ4 engine, with some small differences here and there (civ and leader traits like Civ4, for instance). This alone makes it better than the original both visually and in UI; for instance, native villages will display what sort of specialist they can train, or what particular good they are interested in trading for.

                • over the years, i've managed to hold on to my SMAC/X planetary pack. i remember even going to the extent of buying several and giving them to friends and relatives in the hopes that i wouldn't lose them.
I wasn't born with enough middle fingers.

                  • I've got something like 3-1/2 SMACX sets, one of them Planetary Pack, one CD w/ cracked edge and probably non-functional that my desk chair ran over last year. -I only remember where one set came from.

                    • I have a hard copy and the game installed on my desktop, and the rights to a digital copy. Only problem is the hard copy is on the other side of the planet, and I think my brother sold my desktop so who knows where it is (other than it's likely to be on the other side of the planet). I will download the digital copy, but the last few days the internet access here has been awful.

The closer it is to Civ4 the better.

The fact you browse /r/civ and lift content from it is the most shocking part of this post
