Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
I played SMAC a very little bit some time after it came out, but this is the first time I'm really giving it a try. There's definitely a lot to like about the atmosphere and personality of the game, but at times it's tough going when I remember that certain features I'm used to in civ games hadn't been introduced yet. I found the same to be true on the couple occasions I went back to Civ2.
I started with AC, and feel the same way about II - love it, but it feels like a primitive first draft, being so similar but lacking features. Great game, though, and one I've played a lot; and I wish I could find my old CG+ demo disk with the complete copy of Civ1 - it rocked pretty hard even at that Neolithic stage.
Protip: Looking at Deirdre doesn't get old in a hurry.

Keep in mind, too, that there are some neat features found nowhere else, including BE. Terraforming and screwing around in the unit workshop don't get old lightning-fast. All these years later, I still find a little terraforming habit-forming..
Believe it or not, I actually fell down a Colonization hole. SMAC is up next. Original 7 factions, the new ones can bugger off.
And then one night, when everything is quiet in the town,
I'll catch Guynemer by the beard, I'll smack his cowbell down.
I'll give the doc a little shock, remember what I say:
They'll yet regret they've sent Jim Jones is chains to Botany Bay.

Man, they squandered a good voice actor on that one quote.
The new factions could have had a lot of personality, but they were all hideously over- or under-powered.

"The subject of onanism is inexhaustable." --Sigmund Freud
Also the the secret project that gives you an airbase in every city, if memory serves.
Regardless, if they had been integrated from the beginning, and balanced a little better, I probably wouldn't mind the new factions so much. Well, the human factions, anyway. Except for the Cult. Stupid ****ing Cult.

No. Just cause the Morganites to not appear as a faction option when you start a game, even as a random faction. The stuff you mention would take a huger mod than I've ever seen done. -Although it's pretty easy to just turn off the movies and audio quotes, just not selectively. You could probably delete the ones he's in without it breaking the game, but someone would have to figure out which files for you.
