One of my favorite mini-games was creating an equatorial belt.Originally posted by Buster's Uncle View PostKeep in mind, too, that there are some neat features found nowhere else, including BE. Terraforming and screwing around in the unit workshop don't get old lightning-fast. All these years later, I still find a little terraforming habit-forming..
Also, I never cared how far inland my capital was, sooner or later it would have a beach. No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

I've often started a seabase at one of the poles, surrounded it completely with land, gifted it to the last opponent remaining, and wiped them out completely except for that useless one-square seabase when they eventually declared vendetta - and played out the game terraforming like it was Sim City. You just can't do that with any other Civ game.

Not to harp - but okay, to harp on it...
The BE thing is definitely pulling traffic and new people at AC2. I just had a PM exchange with a fellow who signed up this afternoon and wants to retromod Alien Crossfire into Alpha Centauri, and sounds like he's sharp/aware enough to do it - and all the people who don't like X could play it and not be left out on so many scenarios/mod/assorted goodies made for X.
My point being, please post in 'poly AC about your AC games. It's good for the overall health of the site, which has been an OTf tail wagging the (dying) on-topic dog for years. The tail needs a live dog to be/stay/survive as a healthy tail...
Go out of your way to post in the BE sub, too, for that matter...

The official 'poly Facebook page needs seven more likes - before Aeson wins a kewpie doll or something.
Facebook -evil stalking, Big Brother knowing your business and all- is a powerful promotional tool, and if you have an account and haven't liked the official page, POLY WILL DIE AND IT WILL BE YOUR FAULT.

The newb I was talking about above was afraid of getting flamed for not liking Alien Crossfire, and it took until after ten last night to talk him into posting about his retro-mod idea - and replies just rolled over to the second page. Everyone loves the idea. http://alphacentauri2.info/index.php?topic=8413.0 Most everyone uses X, but doesn't think it's much of an upgrade.
That's a benefit of establishing a civil forum culture, I guess. I wonder how many people never sign up and post here on-topic because they had a look at OTf? I'm not slagging; just thinking out loud. Would an autogreeting PM saying "Welcome! Post! Enter OT at your own risk, but none of that crap in the on-topic areas!" help, I wonder?

I've often thought that the descriptive text for the OT should essentially be a warning.Click here if you're having trouble sleeping.
